SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Replaced the remote servo on kicker and adjusted the throw of it. Now have the brilliant idea to control it all from an iOS app. So... ordered from Amazon an Arduino R3, bluetooth shield and step down power block. Will update whether it all works or not in a few days. This will allow me to adjust kicker speed from anywhere on boat, and eliminates a wired control box at helm.
 
My new iOS app went to sea trial yesterday. I used to use Youtube before Google messed it all up. So, my video is on Facebook, but public. You dont need to be signed up for Facebook to view it.

Dwight, so that controls your Troll Master on your kicker, right? One of my projects is to install my Troll Master on the kicker. How do I get your app?

I started with Pro Troll and used it for 5 years ok. But the servo burned out because they over torque. I found an exact servo replacement for $7 on Amazon and just started going blindly for a bluetooth solution. it all came together. The bluetooth shield (RedBearLab) came with an example app that I was able to tailor with Xcode (this part requires some some skill). I provisioned the app from my Macbook - its not available on the app store. I have much better control with the new app
 
Just returned from a 3+ week cruise in our new CD 26 Venture in Chesapeake Bay
to learn of the tragic NMI fire, the day we began trailering to Tilghman Island, MD.

Difficult to speak of good times on the Chesapeake with our builders loss in this
post, so I'll be brief here.

"Loved" our put in/take out location at Knapps Narrows Marina, Tilghman Island.
More than the 3 most important factors (location, location, location) for a great
cruise were met. Service, quality lodging, local restaurants and cruise options
all were superb. Even the weather was great and the local scenery and personal
hospitality of the Eastern Shore ... OOOHH.

The boat got a lot of looks and questions and we were pleased as well except
for a few 'to weather' days where we wished for more freeboard and hull length.
This is not a big water vessel in head seas over 3 feet.

All in all, we plan to make this an annual event.

Went over and sat in the cabin while reading manuals and documentation. Stowed some gear out of sight petted the engines on the head.
 
Tore into transom and decking to figure out what to do with wet balsa and soft decking. Lots of black gooey balsa and brittle glass. The culprit was leaky drain holes in the decking not taken care of by the previous owner.

Huge thanks to all the posts here at c brats discussing other transom repairs. All the great ideas has given great direction as to how to proceed. I'll post pictures when I'm done with the repairs

Also gonna redo the bottom paint with modern super slick epoxy paints.

Took my wife and youngest for a spin around Eagle Island. Saw lots of seals and birds. Tied up at 19th Street, Tacoma Narrows for lunch. Son at the helm. Joannah on deck. The least dramatic launch and recovery since we had the boat. And, MT Rainier was glorious. I like our boat. :D
 
On Friday I spent some time on the water. Perfect. Flat water, no wind, no waves, (almost) no traffic, and just because I could. Turned 800 hours on the Twin Yami's, oh, and I forgot to mention, perfect start, and perfect run.

Dosed the fuel with Marine Stabil and Startron, and Yamaha Ringfree. It was too warm to turn on the Wallas, and it was too nice to quit, too soon to. PT to Whidbey, down Admiralty to Point No Point, then up past Port Ludlow and then past Mats Mats entrance, up through PT Canal past Port Hadlock and then into Mystery Bay. I saw, 2 Bald Eagles, several Salmon (coho) jumping, watched some dolphin, and a flock of shore birds flying in unison (maybe evading or intimidating the Eagle.

Time on the water, just over 3 hours, Gas used, a few $$, my battery charge, priceless.

Now that our boat is winterized and put away until spring I have began operation efficient C-Dory storage solutions. Today I modified the cabinet under the sink/stove to accept four of the Rubbermaid Roughneck 10 gallon totes. It was quite a challenge to figure it out and I changed directions four or five times, but I finally got it the way I wanted it. They fit like a glove and any of them can be pulled out part way like a drawer to access the contents or pulled out and placed on the table for better access. there are two shelves and in between the bottom shelf and the bottom of the hull is another compartment for storage. We will also be able to bring them in the house to get them packed for trips or unload them when we are done. to me this was the easiest and fastest way to create efficient storage. Even though it took me all day to get it done.
This weekend I plan to convert the area under the captains seat to accept 2 more of these ten gallon totes. After that I will move over to the port side of the cabin to see what we can do with that. My goal is to have no wasted room in the boat.

I did something a bit similar under the galley and on one side have tubs that function in that same "drawer" way. It's really worked out well, especially as it was a "four hour project" type deal. 'course it can always be better/different (and I still have the other areas to do!), so like Sea Wolf, I'd be interested to see photos of what you've done. Sounds great :thup

MUNCHKIN and OSPREY played on the Chesapeake Bay for two days this past weekend. Took a trip to Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore and were fortunate to cross the bay both days with flat calm conditions.
Today I got to play on SKIMMER with Lou for a day cruise from Back River to the York River.
Who said that retirement couldn't be a full time job?

Yes we do need to get an album going soon and figure out how to post photos.We have been too busy since we got the boat, but now things are slowing down and we plan to get that done.
 
Well, I took advantage of a relatively dry day and hooked up the battery chargers and cabin heater and put the tarp on the boat. See ya next Spring Lizzie.
 
Put in the heater/timer/thermostat in last night for winter storage keeping the water on board in liquid state so it is ready to go. We keep a dehumidifier in their all year but add about 500watts of intermitent heat in the winter as well.

We will head out to Blake island for the night tomorrow and walk the trails in the cold sunshine. It is going to be a great weekend around here. Cold nights are great in a cozy boat.
