Some Suggested Guidelines for Posting

I'm with you Joe. I will do my best to be clear. I have found that ANY question I have receives a prompt and kind answer.
To the Captain and crew of the Curlew: anytime you want to go to Lake Powell, I certainly would be interested in seeing another C-Dory there. I rangered there years ago and it is my favorite place in the world!I have not taken my C-Dory there yet because I am still learning about my boat, but I think the time is drawing near...

Thanks Amanda! It's probably going to be 2012 - our 2011 dance card is too full to allow us another 2 weeks (the absolute minimum I figure to drive the 3-4 days each way and have a week there).

One thing I was particularly curious about, I believe I saw a post and photo where someone used a...tire?...inner tube?...under their bow when tied to the shore. I couldn't find that anywhere using the search options. I'm just trying to get a picture in my head of the anchoring / beaching options.

A second thing I'm curious about is whether it's possible to have our 50lb samoyed with us. I'm fairly confident it will be too warm, that bathroom opportunities will be restricted, and it will be a huge PITA - even if it were possible. But my wife is reluctant to be away from her for 2 weeks (presumably in the September timeframe that other C-Brats cruise the lake).

Any advice on those

However, for me, the great appeal of this site is the openness of opinion, unencumbered by grammatical concerns or the level of sophistication of our writing skills. I would not enjoy feeling I'm writing a paper for my English teacher.

Whereas, I do have my copy of Strunk and White, and I have mastered the American Psychological Associations rules (APA), I for one vote for a less restrictive writing style for this site. Its charm is its eclectic and all inclusive contributions.

I would regret the loss of a writer's thoughts because of their fear of a grammatical miscue.

I agree with you. However, dont give up on Strunk yet. This from Maira Kalman's 2005 illustrated update of "Elements of Style"

They have floating bathrooms at Lake Powell, plus 5 marinas (6 if you count Hite). You might check the C-Dory site for past events. There is one that shows Lake Powell with the C-Dory gathering in October 2010 (sorry I missed that!). They show lots of dogs and different ways to anchor. I used to take my dogs when I was there years ago, but that was summertime (hot!) and my dogs were short-haired and I was very young...

A suggestion for those looking for information, not about boating things, but about boating places:
http://www.cruisingamerica-halcyondays. ... ations.htm

Our website tells about cruising a CD-22 all over the continent and might have interesting and useful information for folks contemplating a trip. For instance, there are a number of posts on Lake Powell for those who were asking about Powell recently- just look under locations and then Colorado River Canyons.

This might make a search for a place easier than on the C-Brat site. DaNag will soon update the link at the bottom left of the C-Brat home page.

Thanks Bill & El, It's time to go back and look through your site again. Always learn something there.

Safe travels, Always

Thanks, Harvey - we have sure enjoyed your discussions about sleep, in days of yore - anytime you have time to share more from your experience with new or different research or ideas we're interested. Something we all partake in every night but so much to learn -- for instance, we have a question - we hear about how caffeine disturbs sleep, but we hear different stories about cocoa - maybe on another thread, you could give us the latest thoughts. Our G'Kids love a cup before bed, but might it disturb their sleep?

I haven't written in a while, but this topic caught my eye...

Personally, I think we should formalize communication and write everything in Latin! Unfortunately, I've forgotten everything I learned in high school, except for "semper ubi sub ubi" so I guess I'll be signing off for a while again. :-(

Respectfully,

Sarge/Centurion

p.s. - those of you who can read Latin... yeah, I know my phrase makes no sense, it was a high school saying.

sarge. I am more of free hanging kind of guy.

Which brings up a point. My English and spelling skill are a thing of legend around here, but stopping to spell check while typing sucks and throws off my train of thought to boot. At one time I used the spell check here on the site but it is slow and not very good to begin with. sometimes I just throw out letter and see if I can get a start on a word and then choose from the list that spell check provides. A better way is to use the google spell check from the tool bar. Many people don't know about it but it allows you to highlight anything any where and spell check it. All misspelled words will be high lighted in a different color and when you roll the cursor over the word you will be given a range of chooses of the correct spelling. I find this very useful no matter where I am posting on the web. Now if I could just learn to capitalize I would have it made. Seam i hit the cap button to fast or not fast enough.

When I am following a certain subject for several weeks.......such as the....... Carolina Loop .........I would like to always open up any subject posting as "Newest First".

Question........Is there a way I can set my postings to "always" be Newest First........tks. :?:

when you look at the posting list you will see a small gold colored "page" in the upper left corner. If you click on that instead of the thread title you will see the newest post

Only IF you are logged in, so that the system knows who you are.

And if the gold link isn't there, as will be the case if there have been no new posts to a thread since your last visit, then go to the far right and click the white page icon next to the last poster's name. That will take you to the last post in the thread. There isn't a way to sort the list so it reads descending from the latest post to the earliest.
