Spray from the Kicker

Hey everyone, I own a 22' CDory Angler and live in Juneau, Alaska. I'm wondering if any of you have experienced a seemingly large amount of spray coming up from the stern of the boat close to the kicker when you are cruising . I have an outboard bracket for the kicker, which gets it up very high out of the water, so that is not causing the spray. One thing I wondered about is that my Yamaha 90 does not have auto trim/tilt so I installed a heavy duty bracket that has the ability to tilt up and down. I got the unit from Cabelas, and it seems to work fine, but now I'm wondering if that is responsible for the spray. If it is flat calm out and I can tilt the motor back, the spray seems to be less of a problem, but when I trim down in rougher weather, the spray hits the upturned kicker pretty hard at times, and I worry about it coming loose. Thanks for any advice!

My previous deep V put up a 12 foot rooster tail after the dealer mounted the transducer, they changed the mounting position and was still left with a good 6' shooting in the air, I just got used to it.

I had spray hitting me in the back at WOT. Turned out to be a fender. My kicker always has some lower part in the water and I dont get sprayed.

When I bought the boat it had a 1988 outboard that produced a lot of spray.
That motor finally gave up the ghost this spring and I repowered with a new four stroke. I mentioned the spray issue to my mechanic and what he noticed was the old motor cavitation plate was lower than the bottom of the boat. Because I have a 1981 with a complete flat bottom, the spray was there big time.
When we mounted the new motor we moved it up as high as we could to get the cavitation plate level with the flat bottom and the spray problem disappeared.
