St Helens

k3nlind, did you find it? it's hard to get much of an advanced notice out on these spur of the moment things.
Mike, looks like the weekend is going to offer up a nice farwell to the 05 chinook season, have fun, get a boat load. It appears that the season will be open at least through Saturday midnight in the river so we'll be staying around here.

Who's going and where is the prefered place to tie up?

Sand Island- quiet, nice docks and restrooms, can be a windy bugger

St Hellens- easy access to local pub and diner, nice dock, more foot trafic

Coon Island- sounds like a nice protected place, farther from the fishing grounds and pub

Coon Island is one of my favorites. Secluded somewhat and nice. There is a picnic shelter with a fire pit. There are docks on both sides of the island too. I like the North side.
It is up the Multinoma (no I can't spell it) channel about a mile from the boat ramp on the west side of Suavies Island (I forget the name... Gilbert or Gleason I think). I don't use that ramp as there is no overnight parking there and it is not fun to get to with the boat on the trailer. I did it once and that was enough. I usually launch at Scappose and head up the channel.

I am officially headed to Newport to chase Albicore. I hope you all have a great time.
I hope this helps and we will definitely have to put together a gathering at Coon Island.

By the way, if you have a hand held GPS and a kid or two there are at least 2 Geocaches on that island and maybe 3.
Check out www.geocaching.com to get the info. Good fun. Treasure on that there Island there is... :teeth

Coon island sounds like a winner, we'll have to give it a try someday....this weekends adventure has gotten downgraded to a Sunday fall foilage tour

Well I found St Helens, Sand Island, Scapoose and Coon Island...

It is about 11 miles St Helens and Scapoose. Coon Island is about 3 or 4 miles down river from Scapoose toward St Helens. Looks like a very nice place to spend some time and have some fun.

Either place is about an eleven hour trip from my home... Where I to make a trip like this, I would want to stay awhile. :smilep

Hope you all have fun... :thup
