hey all, im about done refinishing the bottom and transom of my boat (more pics to come soon), i built some sturdy stands to set the boat on to make it easy to access the bottom, they should hold anyone's boat just fine (no risk of tipping or collapse), they are 32" tall, with rubber pads on top protect the hull, they are just gonna be sitting on the roof of my shop till i ever have another bottom project, so if anyone wants to borrow them at anytime let me know...

I'm looking forward to pictures of your transom work as well as the supports you built. But, what I'm really interested in is how you get the boat from the trailer to the supports and back.

Hey Kevin,

I'm sure tempted to take you up on your offer. I have to paint the bottom on my 16' Angler and I'm thinking seriously of adding a couple of 2"x5' skegs (runners) to keep the boat from sliding sidewards at slow speed. All of this is going to be a trick on the trailer. My shoulder is buggered right now until the end of July, but maybe I can put my name on the waiting list. :smiled Jack
 
i have a fork lift i used to transfer the boat, maybe a car jack or two and some tricky shuffling would do it though, and yes, anyone can borrow them anytime, july is fine, it made painting the bottom a snap, i will have my boat off the stands friday when the paint is fully cured

Looks like I'm going to have to add towing eyes to my transom. :sad The last time I moved a boat from a trailer to stands, I pulled it off of the trailer with the towing eyes, supporting it as it came off. :smileo Do you have any pictures of the stands to see where they contact the hull?

i do, its just im spending all my time working on the boat and when i get home im too tired to upload pics, i will tonight or tomorrow though, i can tell you the back stand is made so that there are two pads aprox. 5x7" spaced so that they are centered between the two outer most stringers and the one just inboard of them, so you can access all of the stringers, the front one is made so that it contacts the hull on each side of the center stringer, but not the stringer, its like two smaller pads that straddle it, the two stands are independent of each each other so you can place them under the boat anywhere for or aft that you like, i prepped and painted the bottom, then waited a few days, and move the stands and pained the three small areas that were covered by the pads, they are very stable to, i was able to work in the boat and walk all over it and it didn't move at all, you could probably put 4 22'ers on them and they'd stay put, i used a cart with 4 inch casters to roll around under the boat, so it cleared the bottom of the racks, making access very easy, all this will be clear with pictures, coming soon...

I'm afraid I'm going to have to pass on the offer of borrowing your boat stands :sad I would have to raise my boat a foot into the air from the trailer and unlike you, I don't have the use of a fork lift :cry I'll have to come up with something differant. :smilep Be looking forward to seeing you on the water.

Kevin: She is a labor of love! I picked up an 83 Angler 4 years ago and restored her best I could, it was a learning experience and alot of fun. Every time we're out there pulling up those halibut it all seems worth it. please put up more photos of the actual cutting of the transom for us, I'm saving all your photos in case Jolly Roger ever need transom work, the photos are very helpful.
