Steering Wheel Center Cap

Dave, did you ever see the movie "The Red Violin?" Well a bit of a stretch and hope you recover well. Our custom hub is installed and excellent!

The bad news is that after 62 years of having to have no stitches from an accident, this morning while turning 12 helm hubs from a piece of South American mahogany, I ran my little finger into the band saw. Only took 4 stitches and could have been much worse.

But while the local was still numbing the pain I am now feeling, I finished 8 of the 12 hubs.

I should take a picture of my left hand holding one.

Gives me the chills thinking about it. I try to be so careful around my
tablesaw and radial.

Of course, this means I will end up drilling a hole in my hand
with the drill press. :-) Come to think of it, the worst accident
I've had had to do with a small broom and a spinning motor. Fortunately,
only my watch got smashed so my wrist ended up OK,

Thanks for making these for us.

Mike

Yeowch! Dave, sorry to hear of your accident. As long as all the digits are still functioning... perhaps we can auction off the piece you were working on at the time to help defray medical costs? Perhaps the equivalence of a Purple Heart can be awarded at the next C-Brats gathering, since you shed blood in the service of your fellow C-Brats. My tongue is only partially in cheek. Sending my best wishes that you heal quickly.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

If there is any stock left, can I get my name on the list?

Dave,if you have any more of those Madrone steering wheel center caps left I sure would like to purchase one from you.I will be attending the SBS again this year and could pick it up from you there. Your call--will mail check or pick up however you feel most comfortable. Terry

David...When I did my student teaching years ago I was in an auto mechanics class, next door was the wood shop...at the first of the year the teacher would put two bottles on his desk....one had a finger (at least it looked like it) and the other was empty.... then he would say...the next one that comes off in here is mine too.... I always thought that was an effective teaching tool...

One day I came to class to find the auto shop teacher (my master teacher) and the wood shop teacher fist fighting... I should have taken the clue then...

Dave- I have one of the "fish knockers" and if you have any of the caps at the boat show, I'll take one.

See ya's in Seattle in 3 weeks.

David – I got my center wheel cap today. It looks great. With the black knot in it and the grain around the knot, it looks like a bird’s head.

Thank you

A word of caution. These helm hub caps are finished with a lemon oil wax and then a hard wax and buffed to a hard shine. Do not try to put a finish on them as one guy did and end up with a gummy surface.

I have a bunch of them that I will bring to the SBS CBGT next week if anyone is interested.

sorry to hear about the accident! Hope it heals fast--been there done that!

How about making a hub out of Purple Heart as a "special edition"?

Actually I have a small piece of wood that is purple. I am not sure what kind of wood it is, but it may be Purplewood. I'll have to turn one from it, just because.
