Step stool for 16 cruiser?

Hi all,
Well, Natural Blue has been sold. The buyers are a really nice couple from the San Juans, and they'll give her a good home. He has replacement knees, and the depth of the gunwales is a little problematic. I'd like to have a really nice stepstool for them when they take the boat, and wonder if others have found something that would work well.

Requirements:
--Wide, non-slip steps (preferably two steps, I can add the non-skid)
--Non-skid feet
--Possibly a hook that would attach to the gunwale to keep the thing from tipping over if they hit the edge of the step?

Any and all ideas welcome. Thank you!

P.S. Heading to Irvine Friday to pick up the "new" 19 angler. Still seeking a name; so far, P. Sherman, Nigel Grey, Wallaby, and Plankton are leading the pack (as in, "I've gotta go see a man about a wallaby").

Yeah I launch out of Newport ramp on the east side a lot. I am sure by morning, Marty (owner of Lizzie) will jump on this thread. You could look up his email under the memberlist to be sure.
 
It's a standard Garelick item. Just Google "OAK COCKPIT STEP GAR 25028". My wife also has the double knee replacment and that is what necessitated us getting the steps. If you order them, get an extra set of the gunnel slots (shurloc 76000 catches) so the steps can be moved to either side.

I had those on my 22, brackets on both sides too. I just used stainless self tapping screws and let them stick through the other side. They had sharp points sticking out but no reason to put your hand or anything back there. If that worries you, cut a little block of wood to back it up and screw through the FG into the wood. These were real knee savers!

What Charlie said. On the 16 I couldn't get behind the gunnel anyway, so just used the ss screws and prayed there were no wires behind. The screws ;have held secure for about 4 years and we have had some pretty heavy people going up and down those steps. As to the height, I'm pretty sure they are 28 or 29" vertical height. The boat is not at home so I can't go out and measure. It's certainly very nice of you to do these things for the new owner.
Regarding the accessible fuel filler, I can only say this. On an oil injected 2 stroke I had on another boat I installed a fuel filler cap and hose down to the oil reservoir sitting underneath. That worked out fine and saved some pretty messy fillup. I'm sure someone could rig it up to a 12 gallon tank sitting on the deck. Good luck. I would be interested in seeing what you work out. Thanks Marty. I've found a really good tank that's 13 gallons, and has the filler at one end. The only problem is that I'd like to move the battery to the starboard side, and have the fuel slightly to the port side (it's a long and skinny tank, 32" long). However, I have a bracket in the way for a downrigger right where the filler would have to go.

I am wondering how flexible the filler hose is--if it's reasonably flexible, I could still run it from about 14 inboard (from starboard) to the starboard gunwale. But if it's really rigid, this would be too much of a curve.

It looks to be a clean install though, and will preserve a bit more storage space underneath. I also found a nice 19 gallon tank, which leaves a smaller space for the battery, but an Odyssey AGM battery could handle it. Problem there is that the 19 gallon tank has its filler in the middle, so the topside fill would be in the motor well and not real easy to get to. Again, flexible fuel filler hose could solve this.

Hi--I used a small Icy-Tec cooler (25 lbs.) which is built very strong, I just added non skid on the top and bottom for my interior step, also works well as an extra seat and as a cooler and it dosen't take up much space. Rich
