Storage compartment install in the Gunnel on a 19' ???

My '88 Angler does not have one of those rear storage slots in the Aft Bulkhead (terminology - not sure what to call it?). Not really the transom but on the inside of the boat just ahead of the transom and motor. I noticed in the pictures on here that a 1990 16' Angler has this storage slot. But my '88 doesn't. I really want one. Any tips!? Where to get an insert?
