Stuff that goes in the drink

The guy that bought my Montgomery l5 dropped a new I-phone. I know because I had called and left a message, and then talked to him a couple days later. The phone was in a waterproof bag, but sunk anyway. It in SF Bay, and was taking messages 2 days after the sinking.

Me, I dropped a flashlight one time, with the light on, watched it go down in 35 feet of water. Glowed for a long time. Did attract some fish.

This goes back 20 some years before retiring but I can still see it my minds eye. While working as investigators for the Alameda Co. Sheriff's Office my partner and I had business which took us to the San Leandro Marina. My partner had his badge in a flat round leather badge holder clipped over his belt, as most of us wore them. I guess the clip had worked itself partly over his belt and his bending over to look at a boat and then straitening up was all it took to pop itself free and take a swim. We both stood there and watched the leather disk with it's shinny gold star slowly and gracefully flow one way and then the other as it made its way to the muddy bottom of the marina. Took him a week before a diver friend found time to retrieve it but he did get it back.
 
Lots of sunglasses too....tools ..but also fishing rods ( 2 ) with salmon still on the other end. You would think i would of learned my lesson ...( to wipe the slime off your hand after handling fish )..after loosing the first fishing rod. I had just caught one fish and put it in the cooler when the other fishing rod went off.... grabbed the rod from the holder ..started fighting the fish when the rod slimed right out of my hands. Not a happy sight seeing your expensive gear disappearing into the depths. Tug
 
Several years ago I was refueling my Doral on Lake Erie and jumped from the fuel dock to the swim platform when I found out that Sperry Top-Siders can slide on a wet swim platform. I went into the water along with my wallet, Motorola Cell phone, and everything else in my pockets.

After showering off I emptied my wallet to allow everything to dry, pulled the battery and sim out of the phone, waited until the next day and put the phone back together and it worked fine.

3 days later I'm in my office with my phone sitting on the desk when I hear a sizzeling sound. The phone lit up and then died a somewhat noisy death.

I learned a lot of lessons from that experience.
