Sturgeon

OK that settles it, I'm going Saturday if B~C will be there Sunday. I may fish Sunday too but won't plan on any catching, just motoring time. Just how far are part do we need to keep you guys to still be fishable?

Tim

Hey B~C,
Got a 54" today after useing up a bunch of anchovies then getting a few smelt or sardines or whatever else besides anchovies were in the bait bag. Will try again in the morning but will take some smelt along.

Tim

We had an excellent week-end of sturgeon fishing with the 54" followed by a 51" on Sunday. We fished fresh anchovies both days without a bite. On Saturday I had discovered that mixed in with the anchovies were some other type of fish. They, as it turns out, are small sardines. After going through the two bags I had each day I came up with about a dozen and these are what we hade all are action on.
It really makes sense since the sardine seine fleet is back and they're processing the things up and down the river front. It also happens to be one of the largest bio-masses in the ocean too. My plan for this week-end is to use some of the large ones I have for filleting for Kwick-fish, that is unless I can find a seine boat skipper that will sell me a bucket of fresh.

Tim or Mike

Helen and I are planning to cruise down to Warrenton this weekend. She managed to get the time off work. Who would I call to make a reservation, is it Skipinon Marina or Warrenton Marina?... You wouldn't perchance have their phone number, would you?

Larry,

You want to call 503-861-3822. It's the City of Warrenton Marina and Keith is the Harbor Master. Tell him you are one of us C-Nuts and see if you can tie up in the open slip along side Mike or me. I think they are both empty right now. The one by me has a bit more room maybe.

Look forward to seeing you, Tim

Thanks a bunch, Tim. I'll let you know what I find out after I call him. I'm really looking forward to getting out of town this weekend. It'll be our first trip west of Tenasillahe Island with our boat. Later.

Took K and the girls out last evening until almost dark. Got 8 short ones, but no keepers. From about 7:00 on, the water was perfect. No wind. No bounce.

This morning, before daylight, me and another guy headed out to the same spot. Got 11 shakers in three hours. Two or three of them were over the old limit of 42".

It sure seems dumb to me to cut the length window at the low side. If they lowered the maximum length by three inches or so, it would allow more of the fish to mature to spawning age/size. That would cut the total harvest almost as much, and do a whole lot to ensure future stock.

Tomorrow morning - 4:30 ayem - me, the old guy again, and Tiffany - same spot - maybe they will grow overnight.

Hey? What happened to B~C today??

I called Keith, he said he'd find room for us and to come on down. Looks like we'll be headed out sometime Friday morning.
Oh boy! Oh boy! Oh boy!

Left the dock at 4:30am, and came back a few hours later with a boat limit. Mine was a 54" hog; old Bob got a 47" average; and Tiffany, the so called Sturgeon Queen, got a stretch-to-make-legal 45" scrawny little guy. But, they have all been filleted, so they count. We also C&Red a handful of shorts.

Now the kids tell me that we are all staying on the boat tonight and going out in the morning.

The first two hours of the ebb have been real hot at the spot that Primative Tom picked for us last year. It's just too bad the tides get later everyday. I like that going out before daylight.

Mike,

Sounds like a great morning of fishing. And i would have sworn I herd you mumble something about "This boat can't catch fish". The spot you dropped in must be the one north of your normal fishin hole.

Larry,

That sounds cool. Judy and I may join you Friday night and stay on the boat so we can get an early start on a sturgeon trip. I'll let you know tonight or in the morning on your cell phone. Maybe we can hook up for dinner since we'll have wheels.

Tim

There's a mini-CBGT shaping up at the Warrenton marina. Larry and Helen of Helen O fame pulled in this afternoon, and Tim and Judy are going to stay on the Lynn Marie right next to them. Now then, the girls have talked old grandpa into spending the night on the TyBoo right across from the other folks. Maybe an early out before daylight is in order.

It would be hard to beat the action today. Six fish in just over an hour, and three of them big enough to bonk on the head! Tiffany got the 54" hawg today.

I got some of it smoking in the new Father's Day stainless steel smokehouse right now. It will be coming out about 8:00 this evening, and if it is any good, I might just take a few chunks to the dock party shortly thereafter.

A while back I said something somewhere on here to the effect that the new TyBoo don't catch no fish. I take that back.

Yesterday: three fish boat limit. Today: four fish boat limit. I have my five-spot card filled, Tiffany has one to go, Jamie has three to go, and Kay got her first today.

It is because of this magic bait I got. This morning, I met Tim and Judy as we were going in and they out. I gave him what was left of today's bait. He ran out and got his two fish, and gave the rest of the bait to Raven Dave. If Dave don't catch no fish, it's because the fish piggies already cleaned them out.

It's hard to beat today. Just about an hour of fishing time for two shakers and four keepers. And we never had time to get more than three of the poles out. Had some stuff to do today, or we would have stayed for C&R, for sure. As it was, we left the dock around 5:00 am, and tied back up around 7:00.

Yesterday, Tim took a couple pictures of me and the girls holding our fish up. He'll either post 'em or email 'em.
