Sunbathing?

When I had my C-Dory in the past there was discussion of hammocks and whatnot.

As we start shopping again this question is coming up so I thought I'd ask the group...

What sunbathing setups are you guys running on your 22's? Did anyone successfully rig up a hammock?

Maybe aft lounge / wrap around seating when not fishing?

Sunbathing space and a marine head are the two items I'm looking to solve to get my boat back

any idea what the safe weight capacity is for the roof? I always wondered about that when I had my old boat but never wanted to risk it.

Hey good to see you back! We sold off our first c-dory, went another direction but came back and bought another one too. Missed it too much I guess.

The roof on the 22, at least both of the ones we've had is cored. We had at one time four 55 lb shrimp pots tied up there with no visible flex. Now it handled like crap with that much weight up there so we never did it again, but the roof could take it. I've also climbed up there and jumped off into the water before, its pretty strong. Maybe not strong enough for two, although its probably not big enough for that anyway.

My wife will throw a towel over a big cooler in the cockpit and lay out on that. I've sat up front to soak up sun before.

I don't know the numbers, but I walk on my roof regularly. People put dinghy's and AC units up there too. I'm sure it can handle a few hundred pounds at least. Mine seems to be ~1/2" solid glass on the top part.

Yeah the thing about a C-Dory is nothing else really compares in this state. Having the 'living' space above the water line, the fuel economy, the light weight. These things are just super in-demand for me.

As far as sunbathing goes, my fiance grew up basically from boating bloodlines and can fish, but her idea of a perfect day on the water is SUN, which I totally understand and am looking to accommodate since basically all other things C-Dory are aimed at my interests lol

In her previous life they had a very nice big name cabin cruiser and her ex still has it but she couldn't go down into the galley/cabin area without getting sea sick and the bathroom was seemingly always out of order. so some of these things really perk her interest in the C-Dory.

my practical side is thinking about things like how trailerable it is, and how inexpensively I can motor it from the Narrows Bridge to the San Juans compared to a older Sea Ray or something lol.

Now that I think about it, I think I jumped off mine into Lake Sammamish as well, lol. my fiance is a smaller woman so it wouldn't likely be an issue after all.

Works for us. We have even put it upside down so the bottom is like a bed!

I walk on it and load the dingy on it and I weigh about 185#. No issues. It's plenty strong enough or any "normal" sized person.

I cut a 14" square hole in my 2007 model and installed a 50 lb roof a/c. Cutting and installing required over 250 lbs. of center loading on the roof, and there was no problem. That was over 4 years ago and still no problems in flexing or standing on the roof to wash and wax.

I was also very impressed with the strength and thickness of the 14 inch plug I removed. C-Dory's are obviously built tough!

I've done it down in Arizona, it's amazing. This giant bright disc glows in the sky and heats your skin until it's crispy like bacon. it's a totally different type of cloud than we are used to here in WA.

I have a 2002 high top CD22 and the roof is not very thick or strong. Lots of flex and I drilled through on the flats between the edge of the roof and the high top and it was not thick fiberglass and coring was only about 1/8 inch thick. A 2002 anomaly or my own one-off anomaly??

Alas, I then moved to an area that is absent that orange ball in the sky. It is now just the thing of legend in these parts...like Saskwatch and conservatives. I've been told they all exist, yet I feel I am the only one and I have never seen a 7' beast in the woods, covered all in hair.
