Sunbathing?

Us Arizonans wonder how you PNW folks survive up there without seeing the large orange disk on a regular basis. 
To be honest, when we moved here 24 years ago, I absolutely HATED it. I was in a real funk/depression for the first 3 years we were here. It was only a few years ago that we finally became content with where we are and we actually like it now.
There are definitely worse places to live, the PNW is not one of them though.

There's an old saying up here: Summer is nice. Both days of it.

I moved to the PNW 40 years ago from Marin County just north of San Francisco (Marin holds up the "other" end of the Golden Gate bridge). Many would agree that Marin has just about the most perfect weather one could have. But what did I know since I grew up there :wink:.
We moved to Seattle for what I thought would be a 2 year career move. We even kept our house in Marin and rented in Seattle. At first I hated it. After the 2 years, I realized we could never leave the PNW. I even turned down the best job offer I've ever had (it was in Southern California) so as not to have to move.. So, we sold the California house and settled into Seattle permanently. We've never looked back.
I will admit I have a little melancholy from 2/1 to about 3/15 each year. Winter is just a bit too long up here. Many of our friends seem to plan Hawaii type trips for this time of the year. The PNW essentially gets 4 really nice months and 8 grey and wet months. I've always thought that a 6 month 6 month split would be perfect, even a 5:7 month split would be acceptable.....but if that were the case, everyone would live here :wink: :lol:.

Bring your checkbook and it better be very thick. The home prices and exorbitant taxes make this area beyond expensive. I'm over the weather. I'm over the traffic. I'm over the crime. The urban Puget Sound region has been ruined. It used to be nice. Now it's just Kalifornia North with all the same problems. What's ironic is the people that moved here from Kalifornia left there for the exact same issues/problems or "ideas" they then brought up here. Now here is exactly like there...and they still don't get it.

However, there are other places in the PNW besides Seattle and its suburbs. On the other hand, I see that the housing prices are not that different from where I live now, they're actually a bit less. Local Boy, you got that right! For those across the nation, she came up with the brilliant idea that if you don't pay your rent during the winter months " You should NOT be forced to move out of your apartment". Seattle is being overrun by these like minded types. The streets of Seattle have become a real eyesore.

Mark, Thank you. Yup, too short, not enough hair, not lately been wandering in the woods. BUT, I still stay pretty conservative.
Salute the flag, say the Pledge of Allegiance, Respect the Law, support my church, know my neighbors and Vote and stay healthy. All things that I think are important for the continuation of our countries well being.
And to get back on track, I haven't done any sunbathing since I got off the farm tractor my senior year in high school.

We've had an insane population boom and the tech industry has done well out here. It's definitely changed the landscape. PNW is still beautiful, but some days it's just not fun to live here anymore, it takes an hour of traffic to get anywhere.
I remember visiting LA 10+ years ago and thinking this is insane! who would choose to live in this traffic every day.
now.. my regular commute as become the same thing. what was 30 minutes is now 90. (corona virus has brought that back down to 30 in the last week).

Sure, moderate sunbathing feels good. Didn't your mother tell you about some
things that feel good can harm you? Sunbathing, especially in the SW US and if
you are light complected w/blue eyes, is especially harmful.*
Further, there is no such thing as a healthy suntan. It's a sign of skin damage.

I haven't seen enough risk to cause damage in months. I recall the winter of 2016-2017 when the pacific northwest had only 8 days of sunshine from November till May.

I prefer to just lie down on the roof and sunbathe. I'm afraid that the net can be unreliable if the body weight is high :lol:
Regarding the cabin top's weight capacity, I recall a comment Mark Toland made in 1989 when we rolled my sparkling 16' Angler out the factory door. "You could put an elephant up there," he claimed. I think it's reasonable to believe the bigger C-Dorys can accommodate more weight than a 16. Maybe like an elephant and a harbor seal.

But in Fl. or anywhere in the tropics sunbathing is not really desirable. As some others one of the reasons for a pilot house boat is to stay out of the sun!
