Surviving late fall, winter and early spring

With the price of fuel and the distance, we don't have the luxury as retirees of towing Still Crazy out to Florida for winter fun. So, I have come to rely on pictures and videos of others on this site and on you tube. However, I just don't see any good updates on you tube of c-dory adventures. AND the ones I do see are short and choppy, and usually backed up by some ridiculous music. There is seldom any narration of what is going on and why it is fun. So, I'm encouraging all out there to put up their videos and some narration so those of us suffering in the freeze and the snow this winter will be able to call up some cd videos for survival instead of having to rely on alcohol or drugs.

Why are you sitting home in the winter if you have a c-dory? Our first trip in 2005 with our 22 we got snowed on in the san juans. It was great. We always go fishing and crabbing in the winter if work allows. If I was retired I would be out all the time. Thats what the diesel heat is for in the cabin. Go hit your local lakes, and dont give me that " Tom it snows here " Hey I got my largest brown trout, only 5lbs but my largest, on christmas day from sly park lake in the serrias. Had to shovel the ramp to launch the 12ft open tin boat. On top of that I took my girl freind, we broke up later that year. Elevation 5000ft above sea level with a high of 25 degrees. We had the whole lake to our selves. I fished eagle lake at 6000ft above sea level in the winter also. had to tie up to another truck and back down the ramp on a cable from his winch in order not to slide down a very steap ramp. That was in a 16ft open star craft. My point is dont be a little girl and go use the boat.

Flaming Gorge seldom freezes, just watch the ramp cause it does. Lake Powell doesn't freeze either. Go south young man use that boat.

Kerri On is prepped to head south by Nov 1. Gas prices? Try Canada between $5.25 and $6.00 gal. Your gas is cheap! We can't wait to get stateside. We are youngish for retirees at 54 and a bit older on the first mate!!!! Downsize the house and scoot! I'm with Tom though if scooting isn't possible get out anyway. I insulated the whole boat in each locker and huge difference. I can run the heater buddy on the pilot only and need to shut it off this with all windows cracked and the door open an inch. All nice sentiment, and we may get brave and do a bit of cold weather C-Dorying......NOT!

But my point was it would be nice for the Brats to post more videos and Pix like the diving ones above. Warms me just looking at that Pix. I need to follow my own advice and post more pix in the albums and a few here.

I get it, Harry. Sometimes, we cannot (or, due to the weather, choose to not) get away. Before we retired, we could not get away during the summer - it was our busiest time at work. We were die-hard sailors back then, so it was weekends at a small lake that was a two-hour drive. It wasn't much, but it was better than nothing. I lived for the cruising stories and photos that others posted to keep me going during the week. In return, I posted photos and cruising tales during the winter, when we had several months off and others in the frozen northland could only dream about being on the water. That was how I got started writing about our travels... long before blogs existed.

Some of your frozen northland buddies will be heading south, others live there. Help Harry out and post some photos and stories to keep him going!

Best wishes,
Jim

Well said, Jim as I too get Harry's request having asked for just the same as him in the past.

As things slow down this winter I will attempt to edit & post video from our Southeast Alaska travels last spring & summer.

I don't see what's wrong with the alcohol solution...

I hear you Harry. When landlocked the stories and photos others share keep the dream alive. We'll be headed out by Nov 1 south and will keep posting. I have to get a lesson on getting photos into the post. As to you tube I haven't got it figured but I agree music is usually in them and drowns out any narration. Same as a lot of tv, music overides the dialogue. Usually no problem I understand until one has a hearing challenge as I do. Will try to warm your winter! We have sold Carolyn's house and mine is leased till it goes on the market in March so we ain't homeless we be free mon! George
