Suzuki DF140s on 2007 Tomcat

Hi All,

May have an opportunity to replace my twin BF150s with 4500 hours with a pair of 2007 Suzuki 140s with around 900 hours. Any thoughts on these motors on the 2008 tomcat?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul, looking forward to an answer from those owning or with experience on a TC255. We have a Suzuki 140 on our 23 Venture and are pleased with how quiet it is while running at high rpm, power and fuel economy. The unit weight is 394 lbs and I like that the timing is chain driven. Some say that it is a weak 140 hp in that the power does not come on until reaching high rpm. Not sure about that but it is only a 2 litre motor in displacement but I appreciate the lower motor weight on the transom for the amount of power it provides.

Gary, thanks for the info.

I know there was a Tomcat in the West Coast but he sold the boat in 2020 and got off the fishing form that we both were on therefore not able to ask the performance on that boat.
I am hoping the person who brought the boat is on this board and willing provide some info. Otherwise any input on this potential setup will be greatly appreciated.

I have owned several (and do now own) Suzuki 140's. They are a much weaker motor than then Suzuki 150 (which I have also owned). They are the 115. block, and then with valve timing changes, and more air/fuel induction get a bit more HP than the 115.

I don't believe that you will be fully happy with the performance on the Tom Cat. There have been several Tom Cats with both the 115 and 140 Suzuki--just don't have the speed. If you kept the boat very light, then you can get decent performance.
