Swimstep and kicker mount switch - advice on sealing bolts?

I am bringing my 22 back to the dealer to have the swimstep switched to port side and kicker mount switched to starboard.(see my picture #22, you can't turn to starboard with the kicker tiller handle).

There are 3 bolts in the kicker pad and 5 bolts in the swimstep which will have to get filled.

I would like to know what I should be discussing with the dealer as far as sealing up the new bolt holes, caulking type etc. (is the transom plywood or balsa core?) Since the dealer will have to take the fuel tanks out to access the bottom bolts I'd like him to to the overdrill, undercut, epoxy, redrill and screwdown of the fueltank straps.

I find that I have more satisfaction with getting outside work done when I can let the service people know my expectations of how I would like things done.

Dr Bob, anyone, any tips?

Be sure they do the correct procedure on not only the new holes, but also in sealing up the old ones.

Doing it right takes a lot more time than doing it quickly, and I'd expect that more than a few marine shops would do a simplified, expedient job to save time.

Be sure to insist that they job be done right, and that you'll hang around and watch it done, if necessary.

The 22's have a balsa core on the floor, but plywood (for extra strength) on the transom, I believe.

I believe the early c-22 had plywood transoms then later balsa core (90's)then somtime in 04-05 they went to some sort of foam .Others might chime in here Good Luck Jim
 
The transom is a high density polymer. No chance of rot occuring. There is a good chance the fuel tanks will have to come out to get to the backing bolts.

I would really consider not doing this swap, as it will place all the weight on the starboard side.

The handle issue is one we see with the Yamaha's due to how far to teh side the tiller is mounted. I can't tell from the photos, but is the motor mounted on a bracket of some kind? Using the small solid bracket we've used on some boats might improve the engine's movement.

The transom is plastic?

Why is the weight distribution such an issue? I would think if one is alone and on plane the trim tabs could be adjusted. The boat is always on the trailer so listing at rest would not be a concern.

I have one of thse black plastic motor pads face mounted to the back of the transom so the xl shaft kicker is mounted higher than the top of the transom.

Matt, I appreciate your experience on this as I would rather not switch. But need more angle to turn to starboard. I have tried moving the motor higher and closer to the main. Higher does not help and any closer to the main they touch when I turn the main. Yes, the handle is way to the left side.

Maybe I should investigate a kicker trade-in if this is strictly a Yamaha thing...
