TC25 Insulation

Friends of mine purchased a TC25 last year. They put spray-on insulation inside the hull. This was done in the factory during the molding process. The reason was to reduce condensation especially in the V-Berth. They believe it to be effective in reducing the condensation and highly recommend I do the same.

Has anyone had experience with spray-on insulation?

Thanks, gary

Gary,

I don't know what you'd search for, but there have been several discussions from guys thinking about and then doing that spray on insulation treatment. Basically, they say it's tough to do after the boat is already put together and equipped, but someone did it that way anyway. I think it's great that the factory is considering that as an option. I certainly would have ordered it if I'd had the chance.

Someone bought it and rolled it on, I think... try searching spray on and insulation, etc..

I am amazed that the factory would do a custom foam spray--I couldn't get them to even insullate the fish boxes, after a number of promises and conference phone calls. I was told that the factory only wanted to buld cookie cutter boats--and they refused several custom items I had ordered.

Having said that--sprayed on insullation is excellent--and I assume is a closed cell urethane foam. There are some health issues with urethane foam vapors. I would want to know what type of liner they put over the spayed on insullation. If it is the standard hull finish---I would be very skeptical that there was any special insuallation.

I have added sheet foam insullation to several boats--and the Tom Cat will get that treatment--hopefully this winter. The sheets of closed cell pvc foam are glued to the hull, and then covered on the inside with one of the vinly materials--I'll probably use Someville. (If I can find it).

Thanks for the link on the prior discussions. Just what I was looking for. And Bob, excellent reminded to consider the health aspects of the insulation. If and when I hear back from the factory I wll post their reply.
