Good Morning Dear Friends,

I just want to take a minute and wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving for 2012. Wherever you are, (and for my friends on the north side of the line, this is a retroactive wish too), I hope this Thanksgiving is full of peace, joy, and happy family times. A good low stress, high quality, healthy and good times. For those who are traveling, may each liftoff be followed by an equally successful landing. Each start be followed by a safe and gentle stop. May your favorite football team win (remember the low stress) and may your pie be perfect.

Thanks to each one for making and keeping this place like family and may you enjoy the best of all blessings, (Your choice here, but safety and good family time comes to mind).

Lovely blessings, Harvey. Ours will be a quiet Thanksgiving Day, with just the three of us here at the house. No travel, unless we (I) decide to take the boat out for a sunrise cruise.

Wishing safe travels for all those who will go "over the river and through the woods."

Thanks for the blessings Harvey. Thanks to all the c brats out there also. We are in Rio Vista yet waiting on a parcel from Canada, so we are going to The Point for turkey buffet tomorrow. Who needs an oven on a boat!? Delta Marine is a really good place to launch or boater home at. They had us in the regular parking at $5 a night but we wanted some power and water so moved to rv. The poor gal in the 5th wheel next door looked aghast as we came in. Not seen a boater home before maybe. Oh well. Happy Thanksgiving to all. George and Carolyn

Thanks, Harvey. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. I'll be on duty and having dinner with the rest of our duty crew. We have so much to be thankful for as a nation. We're spoiled and sometimes we have to take that step back and put it all in perspective. Hope all of our troops across the world will make the best of where they are and have a peacefull day.

25# bird and only 4 humans. :cat :cat :cat :cat and :dog will be overjoyed. Anyone want to join us? Got plenty of chairs and stuffing. If we weren't so far from population, I'd go find some troops to join us. :love

Thank you all that are working and serving the country on thanksgiving. My nephew is in Afghanistan today. I hope he is safe. Lets hope that the coast guard does not have to go out in the weather today.
 
The Crew of "thisaway" say best blessings and love to all on this Thanksgiving. We are staying in a State Park in the RV--and spending each day with our friend who lost his wife, Marie's best friend, last March. There were 48 relatives and friends for Thanksgiving dinner-- a beautiful day, so tears and some laughter--lots of love for our friend who could no longer be with us.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes and again a special thanks to all our military personnel for their service. It has been a great day, special in many ways, and I hope for each of you as well.

Thank you Harvey and everyone else for this thread.

Yesterday (Thanksgiving day afternoon), we took our 16’ Angler out for more than an hour cruise on the Mississippi River, did not see another boat, the weather was calm and 66 degrees.

Today it’s blustery (22-25 MPH) and started out this morning at 22 degrees, it’s now 27, what a change in a few hours.

OBTW, Instead of a typical Thanksgiving dinner, Connie stove top (hot) smoked a meat loaf with Mesquite (forget the turkey or ham from now on, I’ll take the smoked meat loaf anytime), see http://www.cameronsproducts.com/smokers

Has anyone ever cooked/smoked fish in one of these?

My daughter left for the Peace Corps 2 months ago. Seeing her walk down the aisle at the airport was one of the hardest things in my life as she left for a 27 month mission. Here is an email from her yesterday:


"I hope you are all eating lots of delicious food, spending time with loved ones, then watching football or a movie and later drifting off into a nice food coma/nap :-) All of us PC trainees are in Assella today and have the afternoon off to enjoy Thanksgiving together. We put in some requests with the hotel restaurant we hold our trainings at to make some ferenji food in an attempt to get some home-cookin’. Their success in this endeavor is yet to be determined.

I am thankful for all of the love and support I have from you, my wonderful friends and family. I am thankful to be in a place where I am learning all kinds of amazing new things about another part of the world, seeing lots of heart-melting, beautiful faces and places. Some things I have become acutely aware of missing here in Ethiopia and that I encourage you to maybe reflect on being thankful for are: flushing toilets with abundant toilet paper, hot showers, really just plumbing in general, being able to drink water straight from the tap, paved roads free from clouds of dust and donkey/cow/goat/sheep crap, babies that wear diapers instead of running around pantless doing their business wherever it so happens (though there’s actually something adorable about seeing them run around with a shirt on, yet bare baby bottoms), laws that prevent men from peeing anywhere/anytime, being able to walk anywhere you please without being stared at, hollered at, or trailed by a mob children, Publix, cheese... just to name a few. Some things I wish you could experience that I am thankful for here in Ethiopia are: going on walks around Huruta and being surrounded by amazing wide-open views, lawiz shay (peanut butter tea, OMG so good), fresh-baked –hot-off-the-injera-maker bread my host mom makes, the best coffee I’ve ever tasted, attempting to converse in Afan Oromo with some of the cutest, dirtiest little children you’d ever hope to meet, just to name a few…

So enjoy your day off from work, the good food and company. Lots and lots of love alllll the way from Ethiopia!

My son is an Army Captain just across the Red Sea in Kuwait. They are in the same time zone. Hell yes I am proud of my kids.
