That's life!

Well, now don't anybody get alarmed. Here's the story in somewhat of a nutshell. I recently had a health emergency which required a few days in the hospital. While there and coming up with an idiopathic (read 'idio', don't know and 'pathic', damn thing about), diagnosis, they took a bunch of tests and discovered that I am 78 years old and will probably not live forever. This of course was news to me. Anyway, I figured I should probably set about, how shall I say, getting my affairs in order. Which brings me to this: how much is my boat worth? It's a '93 hull with a 2011 Honda 50 EFI (100 hours) with permatrim, and a 2012 Honda 5hp, (maybe 3 hours at most), with alternator. It also has an operating Lewmar windlass, dual batteries, and a 20 gal. fuel tank. The hull is not pristine, but the only real issues are that the black transom cap is pulling away slightly, and the bottom has some scratches. The galvanized trailer is a 2012 with oil bath bearings. Again, the question is how much is it worth, ball park?
Thanks.

Hi Marty,

WOW, to answer your question, It must be at least a million $$$ or even priceless, given the experience and the association with the owner :D

Sure hope the findings from the hospital stay are adequate to give you some latitude and that all is well. I guess we all know, that we won't live forever, but in reality, we kind of like hanging around this place and seeing what changes and what we can change.

Lizzie sounds like a really nice set-up and for sure has been taken very well care of. Best of wishes.

I gotta go with Mike on this one.

I have to get another boat in case a "Viking funeral" comes sooner than I expect.

Sorry to hear about the hospital stay, Marty. Be well and keep boating for a long time... the plan should be to try to wear out the boat before you need to concern yourself with the value.

That doesn't answer your question, but it sounds like you have modern stuff on the boat, which should up the value. I haven't kept track of what 16s have been selling for, but they seem to go for between $10k and $20k on here, based on no scientific observation on my part.

Best wishes,
Jim

I'd say that you should think about this for a week or two. Things that seem important/urgent one week, often are not the next. While you will probably not "live forever", there's still some life in you. Do you want to spend it with or without a boat? It might be a bit boring without a boat.

Old joke - A guy goes to the doctor.
The doc says "You've only got 1 year to live".
The guy says "Doc, is there anything you can do to prolong my life?"
The doc says, "Well, you could become an accountant."
"That will make me live longer?!?", asked the patient.
The doc says "No, but it will make it SEEM longer".
Being without a boat may be like becoming an accountant. So sleep on it a little.
