Good morning, Merv,

It's raining as I write this. It rained yesterday and all last night. I have hope that it'll let up in time for our 1:30 departure today, but the wind is supposed to be 15 - 20 mph. Looks like I'll get wet, one way or another. :roll: Oh well, never judge a day by the weather. I'm getting paid to run a boat, so how bad can that be. :wink:

We've been here a couple summers and have experienced that wonderful weather in that article. We've already seen a few of those nice days - there is a photo in a previous post with actual BLUE sky to prove it. :mrgreen:

The rain doesn't dampen our spirit or change our experience here... well, it is part of the experience. If the Weather Channel can be believed, after today, it is supposed to be dry for the next week.

Hope springs eternal, huh? :hot 8)

I don't trust 'em. This morning when I got up, the forecast said the rain would be ending by 9:00. It is 9:52 as I write this, and it is raining harder. :roll: And here's the updated forecast...

Light rain. The rain will come to an end around 10am. Decreasing cloudiness with temperatures rising towards the low 60s. Winds SW at 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 85%.

They changed the wording to "towards the low 60s." That way, when it goes from 50º to 53º for a daytime high, it was rising towards. :mrgreen:

There was a light patch in the sky to the south earlier... pretty sure I saw a tongue stick out through that little hole before it closed up. 8)

Didja check the weather back home, Herb? 91º, humid and windy. If I put enough layers on today, I may be able to sweat... or, it could be the rain finding a way into my rain gear. :crook

Merv was right, though: the boat is clean. In fact, the paint still looks wet! :xnaughty Welcome to July-uary!

Which brings me to the bit of wisdom: If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. BTW, the forward compartment under the dinette seat makes a perfect private cat restroom. :wink: We took the cabinet door off and hung a curtain so Izzy can come and go as she pleases. Tell Meredith to check into a Breeze system for a cat box - easy and stink-free. Whatever it takes for more time on the boat for you, my friend.

Take the cat on an easy trip (short duration, calm conditions) and bring her blanket, carrier, and any other toys that keep her content. If she likes it, you know what you need to do. If she doesn't like it, you're in the clear and you made the effort.

A cat on a boat is easy - you don't have to row them to shore three times a day, walks are optional, they are smart enough to not jump in the water, and (Joan vouches for this part) they help lower your blood pressure.

I have to admit, I wasn't fired up about going out on the boat today: the morning was rainy beyond the forecast, there were Small Craft Advisories, and the wind was building. Sometimes, you put on a smile (coulda been gritting my teeth :wink: ) and do your best to show folks a good time...

While showing folks Jones Island, I saw a blue trim 16... I tried to contact them on Channel 16, but didn't get a response. I'm guessing they were heading in for a pleasant night (and there was room on the dock :D ).

The Port of Friday Harbor puts on concerts...

Fridays (evening) and Sundays (afternoon) in July and August. I've been working during most of these, but I had the afternoon off yesterday - great concert!

I've always been in awe of the Orcas. Getting to see them a few times on our cruises up here in the past was a highlight. Seeing them almost everyday, I am now able to recognize some of them. Blackberry seems to be kinda fond of the boat I drive most of the time. :wink:

As far as "mature"... only in appearance, my friend. 8)
 
Still gray and raining in Lake Stevens, Jim. A little bit of wind too, out of the south. Last night we had thunder and lightning starting at about 0200.....summer in the PNW. It's beautiful...both days of it.... :wink:
