Hi all! It's been quite a while since I've posted - been very busy at work and I actually haven't been out on the boat all summer! Which brings me to my update:
As some may recall, I had fits originally with the 2001 Yamaha 80 on my 21-foot 2000 C-Dory Cruiser that I bought from someone in the for sale section here on the C-brats site. Thankfully, the issue has *finally* come to a close. You might remember I had the boat worked on repeatedly at 3-Rivers here in western Washington right after purchasing it last spring, and it was never really quite right. We did get some good salmon and halibut fishing in last year but after about 8 trips it was evident it still wasn't running right. This spring I took it into Bayside Marine in Everett and dropped it off before leaving for a safari in Africa. The bad news is when I got it back it at first still wasn't right - still running rough. The good news (ok, by now GREAT news) is that when I got it back this time last week (I would only pick it up after Dan, the Bayside owner, had test driven it himself) it ran simply superb. My wife and I took it out last weekend and it has never ran so wonderfully. Smooth as silk. I was thrilled. We've never had so much fun in the boat - ok, at least without fishing, just cruising I mean
It turns out that 3 Rivers had not properly synched one of the carbs, plus the 2 fuel pumps needed replacing. While it was in the shop, we also had them due a full tune up, replace the back bilge pump (and check the other), do a full exterior buff and detail (she's never looked so fine!), replace the trailer hand crank with a stainless one, replace a safety cable, put new trailer lights on, put a new tongue jack on and generally just go through it all. Generally just get everything back as it should be. Then we had them store her in their new indoor dry storage instead of the undercover storage at Dagmars.
So, now that she's all ship shape, unfortunately we've decided to sell her. Go figure. But with my daughters unfortunately just not having "gotten into it" like we'd hoped (and like I did when I was a kid) it makes more sense to put the money into other hobbies that we do share, like target shooting and hunting instead. We've decided to start weekly shooting classes together and get a couple of custom rifles. Especially with them in the early teens, I just need to focus on those things we have in common.
I wanted to especially say thanks to all the wonderful folks up here that have been such a blessing through all the newbie questions I have, and watch out, after they go off to college I may well be back!
We just don't have the money to do both hobbies right now. But this site and it's members have been a HUGE help along the way in getting everything squared away on the Dory! You guys are the best.
I'll be posting her in the for sale section for anyone interested.
Take care all!
