The "Hawk" is here

Time to look forward to commissioning the new boat, "C-Hawk", and getting her ready for the new boating season.

Bob sent me a phone picture of her sitting in the water this morning, sans engine, and said he has a pair of oars.
Yesterday, while looking the boat over, I did some "thumping" on the hull--- sounds a lot better then the old boat. Has a more solid sound :D

Rog,

Saw your new boat today. Looks just like the old one....C-Couch and all. Really like the lazarette covers......Bob says he has some on order for stock.....will have him swap out mine. With two batteries (group 24s) in the starboard box, I'd have to take the whole cover frame off to get them out. Perhaps that won't be necessay with the new ones. Noted your paranoia with no brass bow stem = no holes in the boat = no water intrusion. Hope your install now goes quickly and you're back underway shortly.

Got a call from Bob today--- he said they had a slight problem installing the stainless rails and arch--- the bolts were too short--- the decks were thicker than on the old boat. :D
Looks like C-Dory wanted to make sure we have a sound boat this time.

Roger, you should have checked that "Bolt Stretcher" option box on the order form

Roger: Thanks for the photos of the installed Bomar lazarette hatches. I like their profile; more like the FRP ones C-Dory used to make. I'm encouraged that they appear larger than mine, which will make for a cleaner swap-out installation. Another item for my boat maintenance list. Best of luck with your new boat! Mike.

Roger,

Checked out your new lazarette covers to see if the opening is larger than mine, wihich have the standard covers. Yours seems about an inch longer, but about the same in width. I have two batteries in the starboard lazarette, requiring that the entire cover frame be removed to get the batteries in or out. Not sure if your covers will help in that regard, but they certainly will keep water out.

Splashed the boat today- put a couple hours on the new motors.
That Honda 90 EFI is a sure sweet engine.
Still need to hook everything up (radar, stove, fridge), but was able to "get'er bottom wet" today. :thup

Hey Roger, you said you put a couple of hours on the new motorS, good trick with only one engine--Must be a carry-over from twins days!

A couple of friends and I put our dingy in at Channel Islands yesterday late for a little relaxed harbor cruise, saw your new boat tied to the dock at a Anacapa Yacht Club, she's a beauty alright. Congrats. :thup :beer :beer Now you'll be able to make the Adventure in Paradise Catalina trip -- GREAT!

Well- ok- so I put a couple hours on the main engine and maybe a half hour on the Honda 9.9 kicker
It was just great to be back on the water :!:

Roger

Ahhh, my mistake, I didn't notice the kicker from where I was viewing. I told the others with me, that's Roger's new "C-Hawk"!!!! Unfortunately, they didn't know the history, nor who Roger was, but they thought it was a good looking boat for sure.

Roger,

Great news, Sure glad I didn't hold my breath, but the wait is over and now it's real. A new boat, and a promise kept. (Albeit it did take the proverbial act of congress.) Glad it worked for you. Now off to the CBGT's and fishing and relaxing on the water and ......... :thup

Enjoy,

I don't remember if I won the bet that you would never get a new boat... or if that had a sundown clause attached to it....but it sure took enough time....heck you probably got that ole boat all paid off by now....

At least we will be able to see you and PJ at Catalina this year... hopefully C-halk will make it that far...

With any luck we will be home a few days prior to the Catalina cruise if you need help ......

See Ya Soon..

The past few weeks has been killing me :!:
Not to mention the rest of this past year- without a boat :!:
The local dealer, Catalina Yacht Anchorage, has been reinstalling all of the electronics and equipment from the old boat to the new one.
It has NOT been an easy task.
First of all the timing- If the factory had delivered as promised- the first time- the dealer would have been ready to do his part. With the factory dragging their heals on their end and delivering the boat late was bad. It put the dealer in a bind due to the fact that it was smack in the middle of the spring boat show season.
The installer was working on my boat in between the shows and other commitments.
The factory was to deliver the boat with engines installed- ready to go. HA- no such luck. We had to order the engines locally and I paid for them myself. We will be going back to the factory to recover the cost of install (which the factory agreed to pay for- we'll see)
I had to have our local canvas Gal transfer the canvas and window coverings over- not as simple as you would think- the window covers had to be reworked, because the screws were not in the same location on the new boat. The canvas had to be reworked because of minor changes in the mold and fit up of the cabin/hull configuration. ( We'll also be going back to the factory to recover costs)
The refrigerator would not fit due to the seating on the port side was built lower then in the original boat- I had asked that the seat platform for the helm be lowered 1/2" to 1" in order to install my own seat.
The new boat was sent without the horn, I had asked that they not install the anchor/running light on the front of the cabin ( I had my own to install on the arch) they left it off- as well as the horn.
When the dealer went to hook up the stove, they discovered the no one removed the thru-hull exhaust fitting from the old boat and had to reorder a new one.
When they removed the radar, they cut the cable too close to the plug and a new cable had to be ordered.

We went out a couple weeks ago to put the break-in hours on the engines.
We are going out this morning to calibrate the trim-tabs and auto pilot.
Then I'll bring the boat home to clean and load for Catalina.
We'll be going over to Catalina without a radar or stove- but WE"LL BE IN OUR OWN BOAT.

Roger

Roger-

I wonder if the anticipation to the transition to the new owners had a lot to do with the factory being so slow and hit and miss with your replacement boat?

I know it's no valid excuse, nor any consolation to you, but if the old ownership knew they were selling out, attention to detail on a warranty job could be less than high priority for some of the higher up direction giving and soon to be gone executives.

Have a great trip to Catalina, and good luck with everything on the new boat!

Joe. :teeth :thup
