three motors on a 22???

Probably could if you figure out a way to enlarge the transom or put them on a bracket (like Armstrong type) but Otherwise, I think, it would be very tight. I have 2 40 Yamahas on SleepyC and the transom cut out is pretty full, plus the trim tabs don't get as much room as they should have, and the sounder transducer is there too.

And Why would you want 3 20's :?: Seems like a lot of extra weight to haul around for very little horse power. Could go with 2 30's but I can tell you for sure, I would not want to run any less power than twin 40's. They work, are economical, and I'm not in any hurry, but cruise at 12 - 18 knots comfortably.

Dickblak-

A single engine is the simplest, easiest to rig, to service, and cost effective. Modern electronically fuel injected four-stroke outboards are close to foolproof if serviced and operated properly. They run pretty much as reliably as a new car (!) At least that's my experience.

Two engines have the advantage of backing each other up, though the probability of a failure is small. The downside: 2x more complexity, 2X more expense, and 2X more likely to have a problem because you have two units that can fail.

Three motors? Simply expand the advantages and disadvantages of two motors, but now instead of having a a factor of 2X everything, substitute 3X !

Wanna try 4X?

Maybe we could build a drug running boat as a group project?

Just funnin' around with ya' !!!

dickblak,

Now he and I can agree on many things, but I think we are on the opposite sides of the fence here. I agree with every thing he says here, and maybe the "2X more likely to have a problem" line except that you are twice as likely to get home with twins, and they do offer considerable maneuvering advantages in tight spots.

OK, now I have opened pandoras box, but there is no need to rehash all the advantages of twins. Just go to the search and type in "twins AND single" and read all about it.

Joe: I think you just made it to some list (or lists) :sad

Hi,
why??? Maybe five twenties would be better. Then you could shut off four and run just run the one on the low the low horsepower requirement lakes. Just kidding. The extra weight and thottle, shift controls, fuel lines and steering would be a major pain in your wallet. I bet they would sound cool. You could start out with one and add the second and third when the budget would allow. Plus if it's like our house, the admiral might not get suspicious if you only did one at a time. But sooner or later she'd be asking how come we a the only ones with three motors? Where I'm from people are pretty outspoken, for me I would expect they would jump at the chance to poke fun at me, three's a charm, three strikes, your out, the three stoogies, why didn't you go with two motors, why didn't you just buy one motor, and so on. I'd do it. I'm pretty sure you can forget about a swim platform. I'd go with Suzuki's :)

I'm with Joe, I've opted to go single on both my CD's. As I don't fish I don't need a kicker. Folks have asked me about this issue what happens if it quits. I am a recreational pilot and all those cessna's and pipers are single engine, no kicker. We're trained to plunk the sucker down in a field or highway so we can walk away. In a boat it will just get quiet, no worries. I always carry my pillow and blanky and lots of food and water. In twin airplanes it's usually the second engine that carries the aircraft to it's ultimate crash site. Having crossed oceans in vessels with just one engine and some sail perhaps I'm not worried about it. In my business in marine sales I've seen it where folks buy enough stuff to handle their own level of security issues. One guy needed 2 liferafts aboard his sailboat for the jump from Port Hardy to Calvert Island a distance of maybe 60 miles. Modern FI outboards are very reliable when serviced and I enjoy the lack of complexity with just one back there. I think if I were to fit twins, I'd want totally seperate battery and fuel systems for true redundancy. I've seen summer issues with customers where one engine failed (generally io's) and dropped the other engine as it was a fuel or electrical issue in the first place that caused one engine to fail and minutes later the second. Having totally seperate systems in these little boats would seem overkill, hence one simple setup for me. Crikey I'm chatty for a Monday morning. Have fun out there George

Somewhere on the site is a boat show picture with multiple engines on a CDory. Four as I recall, must have been a 22 but I can't find it. Bet Seawolf Joe can..

Maybe he wanted twin 40's or 50's then add a kicker a littler overkill but There are some of the c-brats that have 25with twins and kickers also tomcat255 have twins with a kicker so the 22 could have twins with a kicker . If you are going way out in the ocean 40-60 miles twins might be good but separate gas and battery then I guess the kicker is for trolling ?

The quad set up was on a 16- we put 4 9.9's on the transom for the April 1st Tacoma boat show.

We got more questions on the set up, and a lot of puzzled looks.

Yikes! I was just answering a legitimate question with a legitimate (+ a Smart A.) answer !

I guess I'll just go hide in my cave ( a Cruise of the Greek Islands) and let the pot settle down! :smiled (Starting Thursday.)

Thanks for letting us know you'd be gone (this time) Joe..

At least we won't start a manhunt like we did the last time you went AWOL!

Matt, there was a picture somewhere, do you know where it is?
