On the port & starboard edges of the lid to the battery compartment in the cockpit of my Tom Cat there are two black "channels" running fore and aft. They look like they were put there to hold a cushion in place.

I have not been able to get an answer from my dealer (Master Marine) to these two questions:

1. Are these channels there to hold a cushion?

2. If you own a Tom Cat, was a cushion included with your boat? If not, did you buy one from the factory? How much did it cost?

Thanks,
Warren

Those pieces of plastic are "Awning rails". It is my understanding that the cockpit cushion is a standard item which comes with the boat. We did not have ours initially (My understanding is that the first XXX boats didn't ship with the proper "lid" for that seat. We had just a piece of starboard set on top. If you have the vinly awning rail and the hinged piece, the factory should have sent you a cushion in fabric which matches the interiour upholustry. Have the dealer contract the factory--or it is entirely possiable that the cushion was sent in another boat (as happended to one of ours).

Good luck. The cushion is essential for good sitting!

Thanks, Bob! I'll see if I can use your information to pry a cushion out of the factory!

Warren, Dreamer came with a rear seat cushion on hinges, not channels. It also had a starboard cover for the compartment below it. We leave it out to save weight, the cushion is stiff enough to cover the hatch. We remove the cushion and seal the hole in winter to save the fabric. Standard equipment seems to vary from time to time.

Our Tomcat (hull # 49) came with a cushion for the battery compartment. It is held in place by the channels that you are describing.

Tha factory owes you a cushion.

My new TomCat, Dec 2006, came with the cushion and the slide-in rail setup. However, the factory seemed to have misplaced the aft center camper top panel. Of course, King and C-Dory are going to make it right. Apparently, mixups in uphostery are common.

I think they'd be glad to help you out, if it was supposed to be included.

Check out our photo album. We have photos on page one that show the cushion in place and one with the cushion removed. Yes it came with the boat. (Our box is a live well rather than a battery box.)

I'm happy to report that I picked up the missing cushion at my dealer last week. There was another one there so apparently the factory missed sending them out on more boats than just mine.
