Tomcat 255 Steering Trouble

Thanks for the link to the battery lube powered grease gun. It is certainly more convenient than lugging an air compressor around!

We like to have red lights to preserve our night vision.

Our favorite flashlight for every night use is the Coast PX 20. This is 155 lumen white and 30 lumen red. The white switch has a checker board pattern etched into its surface so you can feel it--the red is smooth (and red colored). I have seen these at Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot--about $19.00.

The bright light we go to is a Streamlight ProTac HL. This is 750 lumen on bright and 35 lumen on low. It can be programed, so the first touch is either high, low or strobe.

We also like a red/white headlight. We have several--with LED's. Our old standard Rayovac with Red LED, White LED and Krypton white spot

I backed the collet open until it fell off and still wouldn't fit. Sure it's user error.

Westie- Are you pushing reasonably HARD on the grease fitting?
The new collet may be stiff and I also think they're designed to fit tightly to stop leakage.
Also, many guns have stiff barrels, not flexible rubber hoses, which would make it harder to force the gun onto the zerk nipple. Give it a try.

Many times there is hardened grease with fine dust/debris, which covers the Zerk fitting. I will remove this with a solvent--usually mineral spirits--but sometimes lacquer thinner, or even MEK is necessary.

Here is a video on different couplers, Zerk Fittings, and use. There are other videos by this company and more instructions are given.

You sort of roll the coupler onto the Zerk ball head, not hammer it straight on.

We did put a little grease on the rods and that seemed to really help. I also found a little oil on the back side of the helm so I think its a little of both poor lube and seals. The former probably brought on the later.

My engines are counter rotating.
 
All right...I'm at it again!

I pulled on the boat yesterday and changed fluids and the low pressure fuel filter. Everything went great except my grease gun will is definitely the wrong size for teleflex zerk fitting. I have searched and cannot find anything on this.

I'm guessing my gun is 1/8" npt and its way too small.

does anyone know the coupler size I should be using?
 
Im trying to fit my grease gun coupler on my bleeder nipple....feeling extra bright today. I better look a little harder next time!

Ya - I'm laughing pretty hard too. Here is what sealed the deal:

Found this list on a DF150 (I searched DF140 exclusively):

There are 4 fittings on a Suzuki DF150 that need to be greased;
-2 are located on the tilt bracket, facing forward. You can see them and get to them from inside the boat. Easiest ones of the 4 to see. These don't take much grease...maybe 2 or 3 pumps at most.
-1 is located on the port side of the motor just above the trim ram pad. This greases the steering post. I pumped about 15 times from a full size grease gun before I saw and heard stuff coming out around the bottom. This is the one that was broken off by the use of a My Wedge so if you are going to use one, use it on the stbd side of the motor.
-1 is located on the stbd side just in front of and behind the tilt lock lever. I have tried to no avail to get a regular grease gun to fit on that one all the way enough to grease it. As far as I'm concerned, this is the one you could forget to grease and it probably won't matter unless you use that lock.

The advantage not only being that it's cheaper but that it is dyed red. This makes identifying leaks very easy. The fact that you have to keep adding oil indicates a leak. I also had this problem. It was due to the seals on the rams.
