Tomcat Downrigger

Im installing downrigger on my Tomcat. I was told to mount them mid-ship (on the step in). Can someone confirm?
Also, any suggestions of an electric scotty down rigger?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier and reply. To some extent, it depends on how deep you fish and how much current there is. If you mount them midship, fish deep and are going against current, you might still have problems. I have mine mounted on the aft corners, behind the rails using the Scotty 12" pedestal mounts. With the 60" booms, I can keep the cables out of the props even when running 300+ feet on the cable in currents. If you are buying new, the high speed (more expensive) Scotty downriggers are very nice - especially if you fish deep.
