They act somewhat like a small router and it IS easy for them to torque out of control and damage the surrounding work areas.
 
Yes, the rotozip is somewhere between a router and Demel tool. You can use templates or guides if necessary, but with a fexiable shaft, you can use standard Dremel tool bits, or more sturdy (for fiberglass) carbide bits. The flexiable shaft is very easy to control (at least for me). You do have to use a fine touch--but there are places where it is works better than a saber saw--less edge shattering in glass. With the flexiable shaft, you can put cuts in a place where no saber saw or the rotozip can "tread"....
