Tow Vehicle Tire Load Range

I'm getting new all-terrian tires for my tow vehicle (FJ Cruiser), for hauling my 22Angler. They are available in load range SL (Standard load) or load range C or E..

If I wasn't towing, I'd go with the SL's as they are lighter and give a smoother ride, better braking, etc.

Is it recommended that I go up from SL to a C or E for towing purposes?

What tongue weight are you expecting to see? The internet claims max is 500 lbs. I'm not sure you're going to see so much weight that you need a heavier load rating.

Standard load rating (per google) is 2,756 lbs. That's just over 11k for four tires.

The GVW of an FJ cruiser is about half that. So unless you've got 5,000 lbs of weight in the truck with you.......there should not be any need for heavier duty tires.

Cool, thanks for laying that out.. I think I prefer "SL".

On my Jeep I once tried load range E tires in place of load range C, and I could feel the difference.. a less comfortable ride!
