This morning's Everett Herald features an article about a tragic accident that claimed the life of a local resident on Lake Stevens that occurred on Saturday night.
Our department was one of several agencies involved in the recovery effort that culminated Sunday afternoon after the location of the sunken vessel.
The location of the vessel was pinpointed through the use of a side scanning sonar unit that the Seattle Police Harbor Patrol brought up to Lake Stevens to assist in the efforts.
Although, I was not on the vessel that was towing the sonar unit and unable to see the screen during the operation, I was able to see the components that made up the device. It certainly proved to be a valuable piece of equipment and certainly a much safer method of searching than actually having divers in the water on a search pattern.
