Trailer Winch

I have never heard of anyone saying "I bought too big a trailer winch." Be sure the winch will fit the pedestal. A two speed which is minimal. about 2500# is my recollection where many of them end up.

How much pull strength do I need on a new trailer winch for a 2003 22' Cruiser? How many Lbs? 1600?, 3200?

Thanks

Would depend on what kind of trailer you have (bunks or rollers) and the strength of the winch post. No sense getting a 3200# winch if the post will bend at 2000#.

My boat came with rollers and an 1800lb winch and it did fine, i worried more about the strap breaking. Everything has a safe working load limit, usually 2 to 4 times the listed strength. I have a west marine 2600Lb now that will pull my 22' across dry bunks if need be. I don't power on my boat because of ramp erosion here in SW washington. i dip the bunks and expose about 1 foot of the bunk and winch it.

We are using a Fulton 2-Speed Trailer Winch. It is rated for 2600 lbs. first layer and 1300 lbs. full drum. Even though we only have carpeted bunks and no slides, this winch works fine even on shallow ramps.
