Traveling with weight on cabin top...

Wandering Sagebrush

If we go to Lake Powell this fall, we are thinking of putting the truck camper on, and using it to explore some of the big parks in the area. We would also like to bring the Hobie double kayak, but I don't know about the weight on the top of the cabin for the trip down and back. While exploring, we will probably leave the boat in one of the storage yards near page.

So the question is... is a bit under a 100 pounds too much to have on the top of the cabin when we are commuting down and back?

Casey, what are you and Mary doing when you travel with your double?

I tow all the time with the dinghy or the two kayak on top of the cabin. I don't think weight is a issue at all. Are you worried about corners?

Tom, no worries about cornering, just the bounce of the kayak over 2600 miles of often not so great pavement. I don't want to damage the top, start leaks, etc.

I would think that the slamming that the top takes on the water with kayaks and dinghy would be far greater then what it takes on the road. I have never heard of or experienced any problems for doing this. i would think that as long as you have them strapped down tight, which would eliminate movement, you should be fine.
