Troll Master speeds

I plan to use my 15hp Honda kicker to drive the boat at slow speeds when cruising to save fuel and noise.

The Troll Master folks tell me that it will only give you about 70% of max throttle.

Question: Has anyone used the Troll Master at its maximum setting. What speeds did you achieve and fuel economy if you know.

Don't worry about not being able to get 100% with the automatic control engaged.

70% throttle on a 15 hp motor would give you the maximum efficient displacement hull speed, anyway, with any of the larger 22-25 ft C-Dorys.

Probably around 6-7 mph.

Les at EQ stuck a Troll Master on our Honda 15 kicker on Daydream. You are correct, at maximum setting it does not come close to full throttle. You also can't shift in and out of gear or to reverse. But using the rod between the main and kicker lets you steer from the helm and you can control kicker speed to some degree, so it seems worthwhile. I wouldn't argue with the 70% figure, but don't know if that is correct or not. We don't use the kicker for cruising, just have used it for emergencies a few times, twice back when we were using the stupid ProPulse propeller and kept breaking blades off it, and then more recently when we had the water in the fuel filter alarm go off on the BF150. But overall, a real engine control for the kicker at the helm would be nice.

We have had TM's on our last two boats...love them for trolling! If you want true full throttle, just go back and twist the tiller throttle and don't use the TM.

My brother just installed a kicker about a couple months ago on GYPSY. So, he just ran twin controlls. Yes, same size, ...port side works main motor, starboard side works kicker. Some day....want to go with full twins??? Well, the controls are already there.

Just a thought.

The troll master is a good addition to your kicker i have use one on my last boat an now on my yamaha 9.9 kicker and with a steering rod between the kicker and the main motor allows the use of the auto pilot also and yes if you need full throtle use the hand throttle on the kicker.

Pat your brother really makes the single vs twin argument in favor of single with a kicker
What a Great setup Gypsy has a full set of controls for a 8hp kicker with trim it;s a 8hp high thrust yamaha with power trim so if your main shuts down you can startup your kicker and trim it and steer it from the helm seat plus you get to keep the swim platform what a slick setup .
I hope gypsy can take some pictures so everyone can see

Mike and Brenda great seeing you guys hope we can meet up later when Loree gets better with all her surgery's
