Tug Nut/C-Brat Get Together

After a stunning tour of Toba Inlet today, we returned to our dock at Homfrey Channel Lodge to find Katmai and Willies Tug. There's still 110' of dock space for more tugs or Brats.

Happy Hour has started. Most are enjoying the shade of Willies Tug as it's a warm one in Desolation Sound.

:thup :thup :thup :thup Had good discussions with Homfray ealier this year and would love to hear how you feel about it.

Gonna be hot down here too. Wish we were there !!

Sounds great! Wish we were there to join in Happy Hour with you three great couples. Y'all have fun! Don't worry about us workin' folks... really... don't give it another thought. 8)

Best wishes,
Jim & Joan

We tied up to Willie's Tug when we dinghied across from Newcastle Island to say hello to Jeff, Andrew and Herb and Willie. We listened to the Tugnut chatter on 68, and it sure sounded to us like more than a few of those folks had no business being out there by themselves just yet...

Everybody starts as a beginner. Some are more adventurous than others, and a group event is a good way to get people more comfortable. I think this is brilliant marketing for Ranger Tugs... besides getting people anxious to travel, imagine the impact for anyone in the area seeing that many tugs!

Ahem...some of us remember your first few outings, Mister.

We used to tell the new guys "you can't get to Guantanamo City without going out the gate". Of course in those days you really could go to Guantanamo City, or Buqueron, or Camaguey. Castro was still in the Sierra Maestras. I'm not really sure what this has to do with anything.....I wonder if they still make Cerveza Hatuey ....

We think Homfray Lodge is a good place, with a Ton of potential. Mary mentioned that if we come back here in two years we probably won't able to afford it!

They have a very large/comfortable dock ($1/ft), excellent water, good shower ($4[the norm in these parts]) and a large elevated decks with BBQ for dock patrons. No electric to the dock, but maybe next year if/when they get their hydroelectric system operational. The three brothers (owners) have a ton of work ahead of them, but the property was acquired from "the bank" and in my estimation is about 85% completed (all the heavy lifting, foundations, shore works, dock, water system & approved septic system are finished. The bulk of what seems to be needed Is the (mostly interior) finishing work. When finished, we suspect t will be a 'jewel in the Desolatin Sound crown.

...we liked it well enough, we decided to stay for another day!

Best,
Casey&Mary

We passed about 10 or 12 northbound near Wallace Island.

Speaking of listening to the VHF...some of you know what I do for a living. As a result, I'm on the radio every day. Now imagine transitioning to the boat and grabbing the mic. My habit/training over-rides my brain. To top that off we use a totally different phonetic list so when I say "A"...I have to stop and think "alpha"...not "Adam"..."B"..."bravo" not "boy" and so on. I must sound like an idiot. :P At work we being w/ our call sign. On the VHF, you begin w/ who you are calling...like I said. I must sound like a moron myself.....

I have the same problem sometimes. It can be confusing! I imagine you may have had the moment where you drive through, order a burger, and then give the person on the speaker a "10-4" before pulling ahead

Mark, you're too darn young. I have to think of something other than "Able" and "Baker"...

Wow, Able and Baker go back to the fifties. I was in grade school. When I went into the Navy in the sixties it was already Alpha, Bravo. Gee, now I feel much younger.
