I'm Derrick from Brisbane, Australia and we picked up the C-Dory Venture 26 in Deland right after the Hontoon Island gathering three weeks ago. We are now in Elizabeth City, NC and you can follow our Great Loop exploits on the website/blog balakera.com
Finally a blog to help me over Wild Blue's exit from a daily boating blog (still good for a daily check in on Scoots/Electric Bikes/Other Toys - there will be a new boat someday!). Hope this blog can stay up and running as it is well posted and very interesting.

Hi Derrick, wish I would have known earlier, I would have bought you a beer. You must have passed a few hundred yards (they're similar to meters, lol) from our house on Oak Island, NC. Have a ball!
Welcome aboard - I sure enjoy reading cruising threads/blogs. There are a lot of C-Brats who dream about doing the loop; your blog should help fan that fire! :thup

My wife and I just finished reading your blog as well as jumping over to read your mate's log. Thanks so much for running the blog. We have a 2007 25' and The Loop is something we would like to do in the next few years.
I noticed one of your readers posted "what is Grits" after your Shrimp and Grits meal in SC. A very simple answer is: If Moses had been from the South then Grits would have fallen from Heaven..... You better stock up before you go much further north (above the Mason Dixon Line).
15 years ago we did the non-river part of the Great Loop in a sailboat. It's one of the best trips we have been on. Took us 2 years and Judy wrote about it above.
