Hi Folk's
We have up graded our vee berth foam rubber mattress with a new one cut to fit which is made out of memory foam. What I was wondering is if it would work better to just use the new mattress as a replacement by itself or put the new mattress on the bottom and put the old mattress on top and use both. Thank you for your Information in advance.

Sounds like a sea trials opportunity to me. As I get older I learn how differently we react to the forces that act on our no-longer-18 bodies. I'd certainly add an air circulating fabric below whatever you end up with to ensure that moisture doesn't build up between the mattress and V-berth platform.

Put 'em both together and try it for a weekend. If you're comfortable lying down and still have enough headroom, it sounds like you're gonna be a happy boat camper.

Good luck...

I believe that you would loose the effect of the memory foam if you put the old matress on top. If anything, I would put the old matress on the bottom. I have memory foam on top of all of my beds now. Some are topper pads (such as the Tom Cat and our RV.). The home matress is a Sleep Number with about 3" of memory foam on top.

I agree w/ Bob. Topper on top. I did that in one of our motorhomes. It worked out great. :thup

I want to thank everyone for your input. I put the memory Foam on top of the original matterss today and crawled up in the vee barth and gave it about a hour and a half test and I think it is going to be very comfortable, I had a great nap..

I just replaced our entire mattress foam this weekend. I purchased a 4 inch King size memory foam mattress from Walmart. (2 inches true memory foam 2 inches open cell foam).

Took the old mattress out of the Sunbrella cover and used it as a template. After marking the pattern on the new foam, I used an electric filet knife (electric carving knife) to cut the foam. Very easy project for just under $150.00 and it feel GREAT!
