I'm looking at a pre '05 22'cruiser to purchase. Can this model be upgraded with a forward facing and reversible first mate's seat? Is this a job that is a do-it-yourself or does it require a dealer? Are certain parts available at the factory?

It's been done many times. Do a search on Barber Chair, named for Mike "Tyboo" Barber who was, I believe the first to do it. There is a pictoral essay in someone's album on how to do it. If I wasn't waiting for the fat guy to come down the chimney and bring me all my goodies, I'd find it for you. If he brings me the same lumps of coal he did last year, I'll do it for you tomorrow.... :xlol

Yep ,Tyboo Mike Barber is the one who engineered and perfected the "Barber Chair".

The only thing about it that teed me off was that C-Dory did not publicly and comprehensively give him just credit for doing it.

Mike did many many things to improve his 22'. He is the Edison of C-Dory's.

Well dang it, more coal in my stocking this year... :xseek

So, as promised, here's some pictures of a conversion done to make oneNot the detailed pix I remembered but an example. The one I remembered was in a sub album with labels and all but can't find it without more research. As I said, do a search on "Barber Chair", you'll find lots of material....

Back to the coal,,,, Can you eat this stuff?? :disgust

Hey caw.... Where ya live ? there is a bunch of wood work to do when you do that conversion.... but I think it is worth it... and I have been thinking of doing it... we should get together.... I really like being able to look forward while underway....

There are several ways to make that cabinet slide forward and back... and if done properly I think it adds value to the boat...
