Vents leaking

Still wondering what is the best level to fill to for a compromise of full to avoid moisture inspiration, and lower to minimize the "burping" or excessive moisture intake due to the expansion contraction issues.

In our 25 I listen carefully for a change in pitch during fill-up as the level nears the filler tubes. That has worked well enough for our moderate temperatures. The trouble comes when the fuel dock is noisy from other boats or wave/wind action.

Those are the two situations that have given Aurelia the burps because I overfilled it.

Lately, I sit on the fueling side while fueling as well to give the boat a list to that side causing the tank to fill falsely to the audible "full" mark. That gives me a bit more air for expansion as well.
 
Flow speed can be another issue. Most places are about the same. Up at the North end of Desolation Sound we refueled and the flow was twice what I have seen anywhere else. I think they were trying to make up for limited fuel dock space and gearing things for the larger yacht crowd. I always try to stop short and stop shorter still in choppy water.
 
Gregg, Thanks. On the 22 I do sit on the fueling side, unless I need to look at the fuel gauge :lol: which is done by moving to the other side of the boat so I can see the side of the tank. I have not paid enough attention to the sound of the fill though, obviously. Good recommendation.

The Tom Cats seem to have much more of a problem than most of the other C Dories. The C Dory 25, actually added a second filler (and perhaps vent?) because of filling problems on the early 25's.
 
Has any one tried installing fuel vent whistles on a 25ft C-Dory. I wonder with two vents and space around the gas nozzle will there be enough air flow to sound the whistles?

When traveling I usually put a piece of tape over one vent and stick the overflow catch bottle on the other while filling. My fuel gauge seems to be accurate as it will show F before fuel comes out the vent.
