New to the website. Like most of the other "newbies" I have been reading the site for about six months until I finally decided to join. The knowledge and experience on this site is extremely at a high level. I will try not to insert my foot into mouth to many times as my wife can vouch for or be willing to tell you. :) We are looking into a CD 25, but have looked at the Venture Series at the boat shows. Does anyone know with the full height cockpit in the rear of the boat, can you still raise the motor ALL the way out of the water? We will be keeping our boat in the water. Once again thanks to all the individuals for this website.

Yes you can. It does not get in the way at all. It is also a great improvement over the cd25 design. I have always wanted to see that on the 25 but you have to get a 26 to make it happen. I sure would like to cross breed the 25 and the 26.

Michael, if you decide on the 26 make sure you get the factory to throw in the required 2nd fire extinguisher. Seriously, they are both great boats.

Tom, I think if you did that, you'd get a TC255, halfway between  . When I add the length of the Armstrong bracket on my TC though and the engines, I'm a little over 30' OA. It sticks out of my 30' boat house a smidgen!

charlie, I really like the back deck and larger bathroom of the 26 along with a bigger half closet. The 25 has a larger table but I wish it was a true 4 person table like the older models but its a little bigger then the 26. If we had to choice today it would be the 26 hands down.but if we had a little more money, 50 grand, it would be the 27 seasport pilot house because with a extra one ft you get a lot more room. 4 seat table and two berths, bigger rear deck, a fish box that is two feet deep ( I stood in it ) and with the diesels you only burn 8 gallons a hour at 26mph cruise. How much does the cat burn with twins??

Michael,

Tom is correct in that the motor can be tilted 'full up'.

Boat designers are supposed to design the motor splashwell to provide clearance for the motor in the 'full tilt up ' mode because if you run over a log or sand bar the motor can 'kick up' all the way. If there is anything in the way of the motors kick up. the boat, object or motor can be damaged. Folks who store anything in the splash well should check for motor clearance at full tilt. BTY, smashing a motor cover can set you back $500 or so!

Tom, I really don't know. It holds 150 gallons and the fuel gages don't work right yet. I do know that it runs like a bat out of HE>> with the 115's , nearly 40 knots or so which is fast enough for me! With only two of us, who don't fish yet, (Sally is learning and actually likes to eat them  , I'm a cowman myself! :thup ), the fish boxes make a great place to keep fenders, or beer and ice!. Am in the process of installing AC, Radar, Autopilot, E80, etc, etc. This is in retaliation for Sally buying so many beads at Shipwreck Beads in Lacey WA during SBS08! Unfortunately, I've got her beat about 4X and she'll catch up.

Sorry we didn't connect at SBS 08, would have liked you to have met my better half!

BTW, which side is your "better side"??

Larry,
A motor cowl will cost more than $500. I purchased a salvaged boat--and the only thing wrong with the motor was the cover was smashed--$1250 for a new one for a 115 Yahama--no used ones to be found!

There are disadvantages to the high back--although a high cockpit floor gets around some of those. I am not aware of any of the CD 25 or 22 swamping from water over the stern--but theoretically it might happen under the right conditions.

Bob,

A charter fishing CD 25 was swamped in Cook Inlet, Alaska when the anchor line got wrapped around the props and 'stern anchored' the boat. The waves were quite high and close together. Cook Inlet has strong currents.

I don't know if a closed transom would have saved the boat or not. The passengers and crew were rescued by other charter boats. The thread is here somewhere.

My 22 CD sunk during launch in a small surf in Mexico. It must be done quickly, but the boat hung up half way off the trailer. Small waves broke over the low transom. With each wave she sunk a little further until she sat on the bottom. Whole cockpit filled with water and sand to where the rest of the waves ran in and out of the boat. Thank the Lord for four wheel drive. It pulled the boat up far enough to bail out the water. I had sucked sand into one engine trying to power off the trailer. Destroyed the impeller and plugged the cooling ports in the block and head with pieces of rubber. Took a week to get back on the water.

I always wanted to put a board to extend the inside of the engine well. I had a stainless rod holder bar all the way across and it would have been easy to do. It would have kept those small waves out . Maybe king board or a sheet of stainless. Anyone ever try that? I would think it would be good in small , breaking following seas.

Other than the above, I never took on any water over the transom. So maybe it is a mute point. Except for a surf launch.
