To honor veterans I ask, as I do each year, that you consider volunteering at a VA hospital. You will find the vets a most appreciative bunch of men and women, and I promise the experience will be very rewarding.

Marty

As a 3rd generation wartime vet whose eldest Son the 4th generation died while in our Country's Military Service I wholeheartedly agree. If for what ever reason you can't do that, then at least get and read a book on the sacrifices that have been made and forgotton by many.

Lest we forget, the Marine Corps birthday is Saturday -- 1775 to 2007 and still ready to serve when called upon.

A personal salute to all veterans no matter what branch.

You reminded me, Bill. My best bud and favorite cheap shot target, "Gunny Bob" retired E9, ex DI etc., spent 4 days in the parking lot of the Camp Pendelton Naval Hospital when Fallbrook was evacuated, sparing them the long trip to the nearest civilian evacuation shelter that would accept him. The hospital took his grown quadripelegic son in as a "non patient" during the evacuations and allowed his staff to care for them without the usual "hospital protocol" hassles. Bravo Zulu's to to the staff there. Fallbrook was mostly spared.

Though it was not seen much in the media outside San Diego, your modern contemporaries as well as my Navy types contributed much during the fires down here. San Diego is reciprocating now and the Marine Corps Ball won't lack for attendees just because they lost or can't afford gowns for the wives. An even bigger Bravo Zulu to the Navy and Marine pilots and their shipboard support teams for the work they did dropping water on the fires.

Last, but not least, a salute to those who have fallen and those who have served in the defense of our country over that same period the Marines call "personal history."

My son Matt is a Navy CBee and I worry about him every time he is deployed... young and indestructible he keeps telling me "it's his duty" ....and I remember my Navy days and kinda understand the feeling..
Veterans Day is every day at my house.... but on Sunday we give thanks to all those serving and that have served with honor before us.

AMEN from here too! I even get Monday off and get paid for it too! What a deal! Still can't bring myself to go to the "Wall" yet. I will someday. Just lost too many friends whose names are there!

Happy Vet's day(s) to all!

Oh my! Amazing, isn't it what a half-century will do to hair color and waistline!! Great now to go trick or treat with the grandkids and not have to wear a mask.

Dusty

I would like to request that, if you served in uniform, please add your name, rank /rate , and dates of service to this thread in a show of solidarity with, and in honor of, Jay's son, Joel's son ,and Tom's son and all the young men and women who serve. Respectfully,

Dusty, you da'man. Stay healthy, expect to see you and the bride at SBS08 in a few months. I'll bring mine, you bring yours. As long as they don't compare notes, we'll be OK!!

Charlie

Sure looking forward to it, Charlie. Notes? Hmmmmmm.

Made chief in 1942, and all this time I thought I was a youngster!! Where oh where has the time gone? Guess fishin' time on the C-Dory doesn't count, eh?

All best!!!!
