??? video- best length in minutes

I'm considering editing and posting a video of the 2006 c-dory gathering at Lake Powell. Any advice on a target for a good approximate length in minutes would be appreciated.

would there be a way to divide it into smaller segments?? Arrivals, Food, Fishing, Cruising, etc.,, John
 
3 to 3.5 minutes is typically the maximum length I see posted on the net. I would guess that most video clips are in the range of 30 seconds to 1.5 minutes.
 
I've seen everything from 30 seconds to one hour streaming video television programs posted. The ones with real content, ie: Penn & Teller tirades, educational stuff etc., seem to run around 20-30 minutes. I suspect it's because the program was videotaped for a cable or on air TV show and runs faster sans commercials.

A well edited C-Brat gathering video? Especially Lake Powell? I say shoot for 30 minutes after editing. My attention span can handle that. Even more if you throw in a few shots of water skiing eye candy....

File size becomes the limiting factor. 30 seconds of video is about 8 MB in size, so 3 minutes approaches 50 MB which is the limit of some video hosting sites.
 
The long videos are streaming video. Streaming video means you don't have to wait
for the entire transfer before playback can start. So, if you are limited to 'files', then
keep them sorta small...5MB or so. If the server has a method of sending out streaming
video, then size doesn't really matter. The bandwidth matters.

I don't know anything about creating streaming video...

Not in a 3 min video. Could be done in several post or as Sneaks suggested in a video up to 30 min. I use Mydea as the host and the package deal with them is 30 min max.

Yes-Mike, it would be a streaming video like the one I did on Fords Terror, I can go between 30 sec and 30 min.

I didn't make myself very clear in my original question about time. I know technically the basics of how to make, host and post a streaming video and the times allowed for that. Whats hard to judge is what Sneaks called His attention span. Most will watch a 3 min video if it has a c-dory in it, or any boat in real trouble. Beyond that is the time question, I was asking. After thinking about it and reading your inputs, if it hits the spot any time up to the max 30 min is good. If it doesnt 30 sec is to long.

After checking my original film I don't have as much as I thought. Must have been to busy having a good time. Will have a few minutes of the boats and people there and boats in some spectacular canyons. Will be while before I can put this together.
