WA Ferry storm photos

I've got a great close up of a flying Great Blue Heron for folks to compare, but don't know how to post it. Any help?

I would like to see your pictures and might even recognize some of the scenery. I made you and album and it is linked to your profile so it shows up in the info to the left of your posts. It is pretty easy to figure out using the commands at the top right of your album page. Any problems or questions, just let me know.

While I agree with the Oh, Shit comment, I think that bird is actually a gull. It is a lot closer to the camera than you think as it is completely out of focus. And Gulls love to play in the wind. Ever watch them playing over the floating bridges when the wind is up? They'll hover right over the bridge deck playing in the air currents.

Any ideas on sources for the actual sea conditions in Possession Sound on the day these pics were taken?
I presume the winds were roaring north up the Sound with a roughly clear shot from Tacoma 35+/- miles away.

Dave,

Good sharp eyes. I think Ken got it right. My vote would be for a Bald Eagle, not necessarily an immature one at that. Looks like the head is down and turned toward the camera some, and the wings are up, with some backlight. Easier to identify in picture number 3.

This may not be accurate, but going from the time data on Ross Fotheringham's photos, and then going back to the NOAA weather logs, it appears as if the wind was from 35 to 40 knots on the Sound at the time these photos were taken. This may give a bit more prospective on the sea state.

I keep looking at the stern to see what is getting blown out the back. I sure would not want to be on the car deck, or for that matter, on the boat. Maybe for rough crossing they should raise the draw bow.

It reminds me of a house boat on the ocean. Just a catch for those swells breaking over the deck. I bet everything is clean inside.

To wild for my boating and that is not the ocean. I like sunny sky, calm air and flat water.
