Wallas shuts down

Hi everyone,
I know this has been bashed around forever but.....I've read as much as I can about Wallas problems and I still can't find anyone providing a solution to my problem.
The specific problem is this......my 85DU Wallas stove starts up fine and heats up fine and runs fine for about 10 minutes, sometimes a few minutes longer, then goes into shut down mode with the red light blinking at a rate of approximately 2 times per second. Is it overheating? If so what causes this? Pumps, fans, voltage etc all seem to be fine.
I can't find any post that says what the specific problem is and how to fix it. Just a lot of .....try this and try that.
If anyone has had this problem and knows what the fix is...I'd love to hear from you.

I know you want a better answer, but I would suggest that you call Scan Marine directly and talk to Mike. Mike will not charge you for over the phone troubleshooting.

Hi Tom,
Martin (Bridma) in Comox knows a repair person who I think he said is good.

One thing about Wallas I found from this site is turn in on at full heat and turn it off at full heat.

What is your battery voltage? (measure with a digital volt meter) Is the fuel pump working properly, get a small air bubble into the fuel line and then follow it going up the line. If it progresses well, then the pump is OK.

How many hours on the stove? A Fishing C is correct that you always need to start on high and turn off after running on high. You want battery voltage to be at least 12.6 volts.

I would bet its a faulty heat sensor causing a overheat shutdown. Call Lance at Trotac marine in Victoria. He is a trained Wallas tech and is willing to help with an over the phone diagnosis. He just serviced my 85du, first service in 5 plus years turned out well. Call 1-866-287-6822.
One thing you might try, if you haven't already is use a house fan to direct cool air to the underside of the Wallas to see if it keeps running any longer. That might keep the sensor cooler and let you know if that is perhaps the problem.

Tom,
I'll echo Ron on this one. I had the same problem this past summer,checked everything- fuel, pump, glow plug etc. did the unlock several times. Finally took it to Lance at Trotac in Victoria and he isolated the problem to the heat sensor, ( wires deteriorating). Good luck.

Bill: My Wallas isn't that old but seems like you and Ron have had the same problem with the same fix so I'll bet it's a heat sensor too.

Just to clarify. I haven't had this problem with my wallas. In fact I haven't had any problems (knock on wood) with my wallas in 8+ years of use. I just sent my wallas away for service I din't feel like taking on myself this time. In talking with Trotac and with Scan in the past that this has been one of the problems that occurred and it sounds like it might be whats occurring with yours. I like my wallas. :P
Did you get in a trip to Princess Louisa last year?
Hope to see you on the water soon too! Maybe at Pender?

That's correct Tom. My next door neighbour (and friend) is the Wallas distributor and maintenance guy for North Vancouver Island. His name is Stuart, 250-339-5381. Look him up at www.comoxmaw.ca

Ron: You seem to be in the minority of those who have never had "Wallas Woes". I like the machine too but wish it was simpler. We have had a few occasions over the years where we did not know if the thing would work or not.
We did manage a quick trip to PL last summer between our two work skeds. Beautiful! Still not finding as much time to get out in the boat as we would like. Must retire I guess.

Martin: Thanks for the contact. Comox is handier for service too. So...my memory isn't as bad as I thought. I guess we have no problem remembering the impotant stuff.....like boat stuff.

Here's an update.
Martin, as per Stuart's recomendation, I detached the overheat sensor from the stove body (two little screws)and let it hang freely away from the unit.
After that I started up the unit and it ran continously until I shut it down an hour and a half later.
Conclusion: Faulty overheat sensor.
A new one is on order.
