Wanting a 22 cruiser

not so fast. some of the center console out there are very pricey and could be a far "dollar for dollar" trade. those boats are not cheap. what would help is if we had a idea of what is being offered for trade????

if some one was going to stop cruising and just fish then I could see the benefit of going with a nice first class center console boat.

Glad some people have some brains! I am not looking for something for nothing. I know I have to come up with money also, there may be someone who is tired of cruising and wants a smaller day boat. It is a Panga 18 ft 2009 model center console.

Well, it could be that you don't fully understand the Brat site. This is the third rather cryptic thread you've started on here re: the Panga trade, starting with this one followed by this one and now this topic. So here are a few suggestions:

1) Add a fairly complete description of what your Panga is about. Include the current market value, features, where it's located at, and especially one or two photos right here in this thread.

2) Rather than add a new topic to check if anyone new is interested, just click on (r)eply in this thread occasionally and add something like "I'm still looking, anybody interested?". That will "bump" this topic (and the description/photos) to the top again.

3) Try to be a little more specific as to what model C-Dory you're interested in. The C-22 Angler? Cruiser? is a C-16 too small for your use?

Being too cryptic can be counterproductive and like sarcasm, it isn't taken well.

Good luck in your search. Maybe you can convince Tom's spouse to let him have a Panga for Christmas?

Don

Just give a detailed description of your boat.....type of engine, type of instruments, ground tackle, current value, etc. This is a very laid back type of web site. Everybody is soooo nice on this site. Please try to fit in.

The Panga is 18 ft, it is 2009 model,80 horse Suzuki,trim tabs,bimini top,swim platform,I-pod radio,amp,aluminum trailer,40 hours on motor,boat looks new.

Don't know if a swap can be found but I do know that these are pretty cool boats. They make quite a few different models.

There is an 18'er on the Bon Secour River about 2 blocks from us and I have looked it over with a bit of lust in my heart. Great fishing machine built to take on blue water. There are some knockoffs out there but if it's a real one it was made in Sarasota FL and they are becoming more popular all the time. A very interesting dry ride hull design with excellent fuel economy makes them a niche boat just like C-dory.

Good luck bburgin, tough times to sell yours outright on the gulf coast right now. At least you got a great boat to use if a swap doesn't turn up.

Starcrafttom, I bet you could put this boat to good use!

Dan

Nice boat, but I really liked the liner. We call 'em blondes in Southern California.

Yep mine was built in Sarasota, and we do have fun in it,we use it every weekend. We had a boat that we spent weekends on, just ready to get back to that.Kids are gone off to college so now we can get back to playing.

Real Pangas are made in Mexico, and anywhere south of there in Latin America and other "3rd world places".The American Pangas are knockoffs and have lost sight of the original beauty of the boats .Still functional and useful utility boats, but not the real thing. I think someone has consumed some marketing cool aid . Dan if you called me I could tell you the real story of Pangas and especially that company. Ben , I see you are quoted on Rob's Panga site .Here is an article I wrote for Gaff Magazine some years ago . Later, it was plagiarized word for word in another magazine by the owner of Pangamarine , who shamelessly took credit for the article as his own.

Marc,
We appreciate the enlightenment concerning Panga boats. They were brought to my attention some years ago by a good friend in Gulf Shores. If there were no C-dories I would have one.

The coolaid I guzzled was from the FAQ page on Pangamarine's site:
2. Are your boats totally made in the U.S.?
You bet. Our boats are built from scratch in Sarasota, Florida.

Is this is a falsehood?

I guess for more than one reason I would much rather buy an American made "knockoff".

Dan

Actually, Dan, the traditional Panga has been around decades before a US manufacturer improved the design and started building them here in the US. We see them all the time down here and especially around Ensenada. No biggie. Even the Mexicans are buying their fiberglass Panga hulls from China now.

"Panga" is a generic term like "Trawler" or "Dory". Buy American. We certainly do whenever possible. Unfortunately "American made" is an increasingly elusive term requiring one to look at the materials, where the components are made, and where it's assembled.

Just understand that the word "Panga" was not coined here in the USA.

Don.

That particular brand was originally built in Mx. They are now built in FL. The quality of materials from Mx sucked and or was unpredictable .
The best of the Florida built bunch by far is Andros . Also the priciest . Argos and Imemsa [owned by Yamaha]are the 2 biggest in Mx. with many local builders regionally. We imported Argos for a while . Bare hulls from Mx. and finished in Tarpon Springs FL. Floors ,tanks ,decks, consoles ,etc.....
Marc

OK,so maybe I jumped the gun, just knowing the term "panga" as a Mexican utility boat that we saw every where there, and mostly with questionable "floatability". My apologies to bburgin.

Marc, thanks for the interesting background.

still hoping someone will take me up on my offer to swap!

It might help if you stated what you thought the dollar value of the boat was. All the regulars here have a pretty good idea of what the value of various C-Dorys are but not necessarily of other brands, such as yours.

That said, my guess is that you will get better results in a forum where open boat enthusiasts congregate. Not to say you could not make a deal here, but there are not that many Gulf Coast members here as opposed to PNW members and those who are here are primarily looking at pilothouse boats.

Good luck!
