Warrenton, OR, cannery fire

This is the cannery and dock between my marina and the Columbia River. Good thing I'm not out fishing today because the Coast Guard has the Skipanon waterway closed. The news says the firefighters are hampered by ammonia fumes inside and sightseers outside. No word yet on injuries.

This small facility processes a lot of nearby ocean catch. The local economy will feel it. My kids say there are chunks of burned debris falling on businesses in the area of the marina where my boat is moored, which is less than a half mile away.

The photo is via Facebook and likely from the Daily Astorian newspaper.

It sounds like nobody was hurt. That's great. There were 130 working there today who do not have a job tomorrow, but Pacific Coast Seafoods says they intend to stay here and rebuild.

The boat is clean and shows no sign of anything. There is a pretty good breeze keeping the smoke and junk headed in another direction. The biggest part of the fire looks to be burned out and just smoking this afternoon judging from how it looks from a ways away.
