The CD 25 had been stored with the outboard down in the water 4 to 5 months a year, plus the waterpump impeller had not been changed when we purchased it. The "pee" stream was weak or non existant, even when on the muffs.
We pulled the lower unit, and found that the water pump impeller was in very good shape, with only a little set (120 hours use) and minimal wear on the cup and wear plate. The impeller, plastes and cup were replaced, but the lower unit was left off for the time being. We blew out the passages with compressed air and took apart the tubing to the oriface, along with reaming it out with a small drill.
I had mentioned in the past, about a technique to flush engines when away with the hose. This uses a pressure container which is about 4 gallons. We put two quarts of salt away in 4 gallons, and flushed this thru a 5/8" hose clamped to the water pump discharge hose. This allows all of the passages to be filled with the concentrated salt away solution as it is pumped into the system, and out of the normal lower unit ports (exhaust) and the "pee" oriface. (excellent flow with the first "salt away").
For "normal" use 3 oz of salt away for a gallon, will be adequate. The four gallon container should be enough for 8 flushes or so, and will keep the engine salt free. On the other hand, there was not all that much salt build up--maybe Jersey City is not 100% salt water, and runs up the river may have kept the passages relitatively clear...
