Well, here's the "rest of the story". A couple of months ago son Joe and I decided to sell Miss Mirth. With family and job obligations we added up the plusses and subtracted the minuses and reluctantly decided to sell. It sold quickly and found a wonderful home. Joe has taken up camping and I bike riding. For my 70th birthday the kids chipped in and got me a beautiful folding bike which I can take anywhere. So, I took it somewhere and promptly fell off and broke my elbow. Two pins and a screw later I had lots of time on my hands and spent it on this site. I read all the great posts, especially the one about the guy from Niger and his Alaskan adventurer. Somehow my perusal kept taking me to the "for sale" list. Then the posts started sending me messages; "16 cruiser vs. angler", the man from Nantucket opining about downsizing, and on and on. . l found myself measuring the garage. I started whining to Dotty, I could handle it myself". " I used to trailer our 18' without incident, except for that one time ." I told her that, If I hurried, I could get from Seattle to Yuma in a day and comeback with a beautiful red one. There's a beautiful green one in Cleveland, on and on. She had a reason to block my every argument. I"t's too much money, It's too far away, the trailer isn't galvanized, it's a two stroke, our combined weight will probably sink it." I came back with "we came name it after our granddaughter", "we already have the crab pots", "we're not gettin' any younger", "Brock has one". On and on we went, day after day, back and forth, she looking up from her book, me searching and searching, whining and whining. Yesterday she quietly, with just the faintest smile said "OK". So here we are, planning a new christening. Cognitive Dissonance be damned. In this family CD stands for C-Dory!

Marty-

Sounds like you can't shake the addiction! Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about your accident, but I'll bet you're well on your way to healing.
The enthusiasm for the new boat should help overcome the discomfort.

Funny post! Great hearing from you again!

Joe.

Too cool, Marty!

I for one, was quite bummed when I saw your boat go on the market. It's great to have you back!

So...Angler or Cruiser? Careful now...don't make Brock mad.

Thanks for the nice replies. The elbow is pretty well healed . That sounds like the Henny Youngman joke where the nurse asks the patient "Are you comfortable?" and he answers "I make a good living". One more week of PT and me and Medicare can end our relationship for a while.
The boat is a cruiser and we will pick it up the first week of October which, if Sequim is the last week of this boating season, is the first week of the next boating season.
Don't tell anyone that I asked, but can I tow this 16 footer with my Volvo 240 (it does have a hitch)? MartyP (I'm babysitting at Joe's house)

A quick Google search indicates most 240's have a 3300 lb. towing capacity. So, you should easily be within specs...

Still, you know the drill. Search the towing threads, and read all the cautions/caveats involved when towing with a smaller vehicle. Personally, were I towing a 16 with a smaller vehicle, I'd invest in upgrading your trailer with brakes - assuming it's the typical 16 trailer that comes without them.

welcome back....like a moth drawn to a flame

According to the "Trailer Boat" magazine tow ratings database, Volvos are rated to tow 3,300lbs...should work

Marty,

Having initiated the 16 Cruiser vs. Angler thread I hope you are happy with your choice of Cruiser! I'm leaning that way as well based on many things including the thread responses. You mentioned getting the Cruiser and I was wondering where you bought (if new) and how you feel about the dealer. I am still looking to purchase and would appreciate any input/feedback. How is the new boat rigged and were you happy with the price paid?

Happy cruising!

Well, to be honest, we didn't give much thought to whether it was an angler or a cruiser model. We are more interested in the overall size of the boat and I 'm pretty sure either model would be OK. Frankly, Dotty and I are cruisers and not anglers. We see plusses and minuses to both configurations. particularly the bow-down weight distribution and the locking cutty of the angler, and the slightly larger"cabin" and more pleasing silouette of the cruiser. None of these factors are significant to us. We just wanted an affordable and relatively new 16 footer that comes with four-stroke main, a kicker, canvas and basic electronics. We are having a second battery added. As one who is mechanically challenged and, well, lazy, I don't plan on any upgrade projects, just lots of local cruisin and snoozin on it. I don't get the boat til early October so I can't really add any more. There are lots of discussions elsewhere on this site about everything from angler vs. cruiser to a fair price. As a former 22- foot owner and a C-Brat veteran I have to say that the C-Dory package of superior hull, no nonsense outfitting, fuel efficient engine requirement, and the cameraderie and technical support of the C-Brats is unbeatable. Now if they could just make it easier to dock in a stiff breeze....

I sure like reading this one! Good to have you back.

I renamed your old photo album and linked it to both Profiles.

This will be fun.

Pat- Thanks, I think. If I win the C-Dory bottle opener I will use it first to pop a Harvest Moon. If I don't win, well, I'll unscrew the cap.

You'll have a rough time unscrewing one of our caps. They are regular crown caps. You can always do the manly thing and use your teeth to pry it off.

Way to go, Marty! You and Dotty certainly have good taste.

I keep looking, and one of these days I'll spy you buzzing insouciantly about Lake Washington in your new, head-turning water bug. Easy in, great big fun, wind 'er up, roll her home, kiss her goodnight, tuck her in. It's just that simple.

With a few more sprinkles of this here secret magic dust, I'll soon have the whole flotilla downsized. Next to fall: Sawdust.
