What type anchor can I use with stock cd-22 bow roller?

I have a Fortress FX-7 hanging off the front of my, new to me, '99 22-ft. Dory and I think this is too light. I'd like to use the Fortress as a secondary anchor and get a plow anchor like the Bruce or the Delta. I'll be hauling the anchor up by hand for the time being so self-launch is not an issue. Will either of the above work with the stock roller?

Hi Bill, I too have a Fortress FX-7 but mine is stored dis-assembled under the aft seat. It's a great backup but it "sails" when deployed. I'm using a Bruce 11# (16 years) that rides just fine on the stock roller. It has held when it was so rough that I was lifted out of my bunk by the combers that pounded me. 250' of 3/8" three-strand, 15' of 1/4" chain, and 5/16 shackles. I bought the bruce knock-off too. I think it is a Lewmar. It works great. I would think it would be adequate in anything short of a hurricane. I have used it overnight alot and it has never come loose or drug. Sometimes it is really hard to get loose.
 
I'll third it for the Bruce knock off. I had one on the 22. I have the next size up at 10KG (22lb) on my 25. On our 30 day trip to Ketchikan and back I anchored all but 5-6 days and half the time with another 25 rafted to me and never had an issue with it.
 
4th it for the Bruce knockoff. I have a Lewmar 10Kg and it seems to work very well on my 22' (limited anchoring experience). I have attached a non-metallic bungee cord to the chain and back to the forward cleat just to make sure it doesn't self deploy at an embarassing moment, probably belt and suspenders but its no trouble to pull off as I don't have a windlass ...yet :) and have to go forward to drop anchor anyway.
 
I have a delta and like it a lot. It will reset after the boat changes direction with the tide. I have not had it drag yet. it fits on the stock roller depending on which one you have. I noticed that sarks stock roller is longer then mine.

A good way to get some sleep while on the hook is to set your anchor alarm. most gps have one and the owners dont know it. The alarm will sound if your boat move more then the distance you set in the alarm. remember that the distance from the boat to the anchor is half the distance the boat can travel with out dragging the anchor. when the tide changes you will be 180 degrees from where you started. I set the alarm the first time at 100 ft when I had about 80 ft of rode out. the alarm went off at 2 am, with the tide change. I was !20 ft from where I had set the alarm "after" anchoring, not from the anchor.
 
Another little trick is after setting the anchor and you have stopped moving is to start a track on your gps and observe the track for about 15-30 minutes. If you go to the smallest scale you can tell if you are dragging the anchor or not.
 
Starting a track is a good idea. The anchor alarm feature can drive you crazy if you have a lot of rode out and there is lots of current or wind, or both.

Thanks to those who replied. I decided to go with the 16.5 lb. Claw anchor made by Simpson Lawrence (Lewmar). This is a Bruce replica and I think is the same as the one sold by West Marine. I got mine at Steveston Marine and Hardware for $66.95 Cdn. (www.stevestonmarine.com).
