Sorry, I couldn't help myself! Just trying to be nice!

Here - I'll return the favor. Take your pick:

MSN Groups Cape Cruiser Owners Group

Yahoo Groups Cape Cruiser Owners Group

Both are free, and just waiting to be filled up with Cape Cruiser members, their boat photos, and insights. Just say the word, stuberg - I'll hand over the keys to both of them, either to you, Cape Cruiser, or any other Cape Cruiser owner who wants them.

Oh...but that's not all. I've just purchased the capecruisers.com domain name - yes, I'm serious, click here for details. I'll be glad to eat the $10 first year registration, and gift it to the soon-to-be Cape Cruiser Owners Group as well.

I'll even post a nice link to the new Cape Cruiser community on our home page.

See how nice we are?

Well folks let me mix up the pot a bit. I have been a member of this site for a while now, waiting for the right deal to come along and it finally has. Now the problem, we have bought a 1981 "Hunky Dory" Do we also need our own website or can we stay here??? Seriously Sher and I will be picking the boat up in Washington on the weekend of Nov. 19. It's an oldy but a goody, nothing that some TLC won't fix. Looking forward to meeting some of you in the spring.

You can probably get that web site address from danag if you want it! ($11.00)
Not the same issue here. It does not cause a disturbance in the force. Hunky Dory is an ancestor! Quite different from "Dolly". Remember, it is more about HOW things came about than boat quality, etc. It is a bit like a Husky walking into an Oregon (or Pullman!) sports bar in full purple & gold. Actually, Oregon is a good example after a few years ago. With the way things happened, some feel a bit spit on. Time may tell on this or we may never know.
When I was looking into buying a C-Dory, the comment was "these people sure are passionate about their boats!" I think that is very true! But I boat with people and they pilot all different kinds of boats. I just have a weary eye on the CC group. Talented or not. Good boat or not.

Bleah

Sadly I think we have one of these in our midst and unfortunately the only way to deal with one is to ignore it.

Cool Da Nag! Our own Cape Crusiers forum. That's awesome!!

Let's see, we need a mission statement and tag line ... hmmm ... I've got it ...

* * * * *
CAPE CRUSADERS

A Fun and Informative Forum for Cape Cruiser People Who Are Over 6 Foot Tall and Are Righthanded!

No Rules, Just Keep Out All Lefthanded Non-Cape Cruiser People Who Are Under 6 Feet Tall

(The fine print: If you are exactly 6 feet tall, you'll have to look into a different group because we don't accept threads from your kind. And don't lie about your statistics because we verify membership using our special counter intelligence identification decoder device.)
* * * * *

Let's get me set up Da Nag because I'm ready for action. I've also decided to allow Jimbo to join the group but that's a special Grandfather Clause Exception that we can't offer to the general public.

Jimbo--congradulations on your recent purchase, I'm sure you & family will get alot of use out of the "Hunky Dory", and the price was right! So what if it does need some work that's just part of boating. Even the newer ones always need something. Enjoy Rich on Don Quixote

I've been part of this site for about a year and until recently I encountered no sarcasm at all, only happy people who love C-Dorys. It's unfortunate that others want to come into this site to promote a rival company, especially when it was initially done in a very devious manner.

Ain't you glad Bill is a Nerd and not a Poobah? Me and old RF have been banned from places for less than the crap that's going on here.

The Just Be Nice line is not a rule, because we still don't have any rules. It is a suggestion, request, admonition, plea, or whatever you want to call it. Along with it goes the expectation of respect and decency.

I have received some requests to delete, edit, lock, or otherwise terminate this discussion. Sorry, we just can't be doing that. Over the years, it will prove its worth. One of the reasons for this forum's success is the type of people who participate. The same is true for the success of our many cruises and events. There is something about the C-Dory, with its common sense simplicity and charm, that attracts people whose personalities include the same traits. We are a group of people with vastly different lives yet remarkably similar lifestyles. That's why we all fit, and that's why we don't need a set of rules or a yacht club charter to have fun. The value in the above discussion is that it shows this off to a degree far greater than intended. That, too, is the reason we choose to remain strictly a C-Dory group. There is safety in associating with C-Dory people, and freedom from having to be told how to act.

So this thread stays, and I am going to continue to be nice. Not because I wrote the line at the top of our forum, but because I really am that way. That's why I bought the boat I have.

Please do not mock the 1000+ people I call friends. You are not putting too bright of a shine on the personality of the new Cape Cruiser.

Mike

Hi Folks,

With all that is said and done, I still love my C-Dory. It is comfortable, economical, "cute" and just a wonderful boat to own and use. Also, all my friends are C-Dory owners. We have great times on our cruisers. The one dealer I know, Y-Marina in New Hampshire are great people and sponsored a great gathering this past spring.

Enough said.

Fred

PS. John, you missed a great cruise on the Erie Canal.

Jimbo-

The difference as I see it: You joined with the sole purpose of checking out the C-Dory. When you bought your boat, you didn't try to make a big deal out of it. Most of us here have no problem with that. We realize that our boats will not fit everyones needs or budget (dang, did I just write that?). If you got a good deal on the Hunky Dory-- good for you. :thup

We have several members that do not own a boat, or own another make of boat, that signed on to garner information towards a possible purchase of a C-Dory. We wish them well, however it turns out for them.:thup

It seems that we also have members that want to promote another make of boat and / or create division among the group. :thdown These are the ones that we should, collectively, try to assist them in starting their own group.

I am sorry if I stepped on some toes earlier when I tried assist this gentleman in finding information, elsewhere, with which to rig out his new boat. :beer

You are right, Mr. Tyboo. And I totally agree. This site is just kind of like America (OK, the US. I don't want to step on any Canadian, Brazilian, or Peruvian American type toes here) Free speech, freedom to assemble. That is what we are all about.

This has been way too much fun but I agree it is time to let this thread go overboard before veins start to pop. And, besides, I've got other fish to fry.

So here's my position just in case anyone isn't clear on that: I welcome everyone!!

Here's a fun question to think about before deciding to choose sides:

HOW CAN YOU CHOOSE SIDES ON A ROUND PLANET?

So let's let this thread die and go boating!

:-)

Stuberg-

What bothers me most in the whole affair of the past two days is the apparent joy you take in deliberately disturbing this otherwise peaceful and friendly group under the guise of just being open, friendly, and objective. You are toying with us while harboring ulterior objectives, and I, for one, am not buying it. Joe.

Sea Wolf -

I would have never guessed that owning a boat that is from the same design lineage would cause such a stir.

I think C-Dory boats are awesome. It took me two years to find a basic boat style that I liked. Luckily for me, there just happens to be more choices in the category now and I don't care where they came from or how it happened. I just don't take the politics very seriously.

As I said before, I'm the kind of guy that doesn't mind driving my Honda to a Harley event. I think we all have a lot to learn from each other and I celebrate the differences.

Rather than get mad at people that were being rude, I just choose to have some fun. And based on the number of views on this post, I bet that a lot of readers have enjoyed the fun exchange. I've had a number of private messages from folks that didn't want to write online for fear of being banned. One guy told me that on the C-Dogs site, some folks were kicked right off.

As for me, I'm grateful for the exchange and all of the great information on the site. It's very helpful.

I guess better late than never so I'll jump in.

Flagold,

Your comment about towing a CD22 was right on. I haven't seen any other boat I would rather be towing but I made that decision before I bought the boat. The good news after a full summer it is still true.

Tyboo,

A few weeks back I passed a 26 foot Bayliner in Passage Canal in 3 foot seas. We were traveling a very comfortable 14 mph with no spray on the windows. The Bayliner didn't look like they were having much fun. Trim tabs are everything to making the boat more efficient and comfortable to cruise. Now if I could just get everyone to sit still so it would stay in trim.

I've had a number of private messages from folks that didn't want to write online for fear of being banned.

I flat out do not believe that. There have been three Users banned from this site, and all three of them were peddling drugs.

Please wipe your feet before you come into my house.

Sea Wolf

You have probably saved me from being the first person banned from this site.

I was in the process of drafting a reply to Stupidberg. When I refreshed my screen and I saw your post. You said what I wanted to say, but in a much much nicer way and much shorter.

After considerable thought I decided to not hit the Submit button on my screen, and instead Thank you.

I don’t know if I can continue to read Stupidberg’s post without jumping in, but I will try because I don’t think I am capable of being as nice as all of the other C-Dory people on this site.

Sea Wolf; my wife and I want to take a trip to Shasta Lake this Fall with our 16’ Cruiser and I was wondering how much longer the weather will still be nice down there? Now I consider 70 degree tempture nice, however my wife (Terri) likes it warmer.

Hi,
This is old terraplane from the Chesapeake...now Sally's Sister...
Just happened on this thread...
We've had our 22 for nine months. We were careful about our choice of C.dory, especially since we were moving from a 40 foot wood trawler with room for six!
The boat has been great. We've logged over 125hours, been all over the Bay. Like any boat, it takes some learning...and i consider that part of the fun. We constantly get positive feedback from admiring people.
This site is a great , great asset...and the common quality here is decency, friendly help, and humor. I never hesitate to send in my (sometimes) dumb questions...always get immediate help.
I had to learn to use trim tabs, and i get better each trip. Chesapeake chop is legendary, and the Bay will teach you and fast. Any boat has its unique "personality" and i like the c.dory "no nonsense" approach just fine.
My contacts with Cutter Marine, with c.dory factory people, and with people here make me a loyal supporter.
And, to Tyboo....you should really go to work for our state department. Your diplomacy on this issue has been really nice to see.

Sally's Sister

And, we on the Chesapeake look forward to breaking our already "national" record for a gathering on June 3, Lankford Bay Marina, on The Eastern Shore! Y'all come.
