Let's go for the WOW first. I got to go for a quick demo ride on Phil Arnold's new Ranger 25. Claret hull with tan trim. It is gorgeous!!!! I was impressed with the quality given a limited look.

Now for the whine... my interior grab rails came in today, and a job that I thought would take an hour or two took all afternoon, plus a trip back into Oregon City for a 5/16 bolt that stripped when I tried to put things back together. The port topside rail had a bit of a set to it, and I ended up having to pull the top rail in order to get the aft bolt started. Hopefully I got enough Boat life goobered around to keep it from leaking.

I just realized that being retired means I don't have any days off anymore, just look at all the work I "had" to do today.

I do emphasize with you. When it rains (hard) one of those bolts holding the inside grab rail to the outside grab rail leaks. I know I have to squirt sealant in there, but I'll bet when I pull the bolt out the 2 rails will be misaligned. At the moment I've got a paper towel taped up, and I'm praying it don't rain, since I'm also retired and have the following projects:
repair son-in-laws jeep and sell it.
plant tree that died when we were on vacation.
fix the 63 Chevvy, so I don't have to start it with a screw driver.

However we're going to sell the Avon, etc. at the Chula Vista swap meet tomorrow. Heck, I'll start next week.

Hi Whining Steve, :D Just remember: merely because you are retired (i.e., don't have a job) does not mean that your time isn't worth anything! I had to take care of that problem many years ago.
About your Permatrim plate: has it done anything of value for your steerage, planing performance or mileage? I had a flat-bottomed, displacement hull boat (Nimble Vagabond) that was difficult to steer (especially at low speeds, but max was only about 6 knots anyway.) I was going to put a PropGuard (kind of a Kort nozzle) on the Honda 30, but sold her instead. Glad I did, which brought me to a C-Dory 22.

Hi Rod,

I had planned on taking Constant Craving out today, following the ride on the Ranger, but got short circuited.

The Permatrim plate went on quite easily, and who ever it was that said to use 5200 was correct. I didn't read the instructions carefully enough on the first pass. There's a picture in the Boat Mods sub album.

Say hello to Florida for me.

I retired five years ago and like most immediately dove into my hobbies of fishing, wood working, gardening, charity work and nearly worked myself to death. It was as if I was trying to make up for lost time. Last weekend I think I truly retired. I was in my new CD anchored in the back of a beautiful creek relaxing in my hammock. It was about sundown and I started thinking about what I would do the next day. I started running this senerio through my head that I would leave at such and such a time and make it to another anchorage by 5 PM. Then I would do this and that. Suddenly I stopped and it occured to me I would do exactly what I wanted to do when I woke up what ever time that might be. This wonderful feeling came over me on true serenity. The next afternoon at a fuel dock I was talking with a young boater and he had asked where I had been. I was giving him a run down of where I had been. He asked when I had to be home. My reply was when ever I get ready I'm retired. I think after 5 years I have truly retired!
