Why is that?

After I check the weather and read the local and national news sites, the next place I go on my computer or ipad is the C-Brats site. Now I have other abiding interests-- bicycles, motorcycles, Rvs, Presbyterian Church stuff, county commissioning, economics, history etc. But I like this place and I have been asking myself-- self why is that?

I think it is because I always learn something of value here. For some reason CBrats seem to be civil and knowledgeable about not only boats, but in general. I always walk away with something useful. I am very careful about what I post because I know that I am not among people who do not even know that they do not know. Even the not knowers here know they dont know and there are world class experts in just about every field of human endeavor present as well as world class boat folks.

Not the only non-FB'er (damn FaceBook). Heck, I work w/ computers for a living (support the IBM MF OS) but I have ZERO interest in the new "social media"; FB, Tweeting (for twits), etc. Heck, I don't even text or have a smart phone!

Guess the C-Brats site is our version of Social Media.

Now if only DaNag and Tyboo Mike could make out financially like Mark Zuckerberg! God knows the C-Brats are as loyal and often vociferous bunch as the supporters of those other brands of "social media".

x2! (well, long ago I used to support IBM's systems, and I have recently succumbed to the lure of the smartphone)

There are a few other sites I enjoy and learn from: Alaska Outdoors Forums, Boatdiesel, Cruisers Forum, and Trawler Forum. Salty Dogs (ifish), esp if you're into west coast tuna fishing. The Hull Truth sometimes too, though it's more oriented to warm-water sportfishers, and you may have to sift through a fair amount of flotsam and jetsam to find the good stuff.

I keep sending out emails to the VC firms, but their lack of reply is putting a serious damper on our IPO plans. So much for my fleet of TomCats and our own C-Brats Marina.

I'm gonna blame the economy.
 
I don't do a whole bunch of those EM (Electronic Media) things, FarceBook, Linkin, tweeeeet of all the rest. Why, when I can come here, among friends who are nice (just be nice) and learn things, every time I come on board. AND they are all nice folks. We like the same stuff, well except Tom and I-- I don't do crabs, and he doesn't like the C-Hawks, so were even there.

It's a great place to come to, kick off the shoes and sit up and pay attention, and relax.

Works for me, and at least a couple of you other folks to. Thanks to you all for letting me into the living room.

Well, I facebook, as it's a nice way to stay in touch with and up to date with family and friends... but then there are some that maybe don't realize their fingers are typing what their brains are thinking, but in the old days we'd just talk to our self about that stuff... :-( Twitter? Not interested. We used the word "Twit" growing up, and it wasn't a nice thing to be called... I'm good at typing emails or in chat windows, but as my step daughter says, it's painful to watch me text. (Something too time consuming on a flip phone anyway.) Then there is here. I agree with others.....lots of good information and ideas! Colby
 
My wife Val says this site is my Facebook since she is a "Facebook" person and I am not per say
At night she will say "are we on Facebook again?"
I don't care --- besides she is probably right (she usually is)
I love this site
 
Classic....

I used to email and call my nieces and nephews. They would eventually get back to me...I decided to sign up for FB to keep in touch with them. If I post a message - bam - I hear from them instantly. Ha ha!

The funny thing is FB is not the latest and greatest thing - kids are using Instagram these days. FB is as far as I have gone.

That's weird. I thought I was the only one left on the planet who does not text or do facebook. :?
True story: 18 months ago I was in Edmonton for my daughter's Uni grad. I caught a bus, my first one in 30 years living in Canada! The bus was packed, all seats taken and the center aisle full with standing. I looked around the bus and everyone I could see was looking down at their little gizmo's, thumbs going ten to the dozen. I was the only one looking out the window smelling the rose's. Make's you wonder eh ?

Right with you! I am a bit younger than many here and am very "technical" but I don't use social media and really relish experiencing the real world and it's sights and sounds. That is why many of us like boats so much. They are an immersive experience much of the time.

I can't believe how many people wear headphones all the time. They are missing too much of life.

Waiting at Red Lobster,there were two teens playing games on phones sitting. While there was an elderly lady that needed a seat in front of them, she was using a walker. Couldn't believe they never offered up their seat ,bad part was parents were with them. I was standing at other end of the room,but it was annoying to witness. Im sure there are many teens brought up to still have manners, but not in this case. In some cases this technology makes people less considerate and they just ignore each other.
