If one conks out and needs extended repair or replacement, you can still cruise on the other. We had one conk out while cruising north on the ICW, ordered a replacement from a Honda dealer in NY, trailered north, cruised the Erie Canal (speed limit, so one engine was perfect) to the dealer and had the other new one added.

That might also be a good reason for me to keep my Honda 8hp (have been considering changing it for a 2hp). I don't have enough C-Dory experience to know if it would suffice for an Erie Canal trip (because perhaps the windage of a C-Dory would overwhelm it?), but if it would, that'd be a plus. I also have a steering tiller if I need it for some reason (I'm guessing the 40's may have one too, but my 80hp main does not).

I know I wouldn't try an Erie Canal trip with a 2hp (on purpose, I mean).

River trip sounds great :thup When I went through the mountains on my way west, I was reminded how much I miss rivers and rapids, and it made me want to experience them again.
